In a Ford Ford F-150's exhaust system the mid-pipes are usually the point where the flow of exhaust gases are most cramped and slowed by the stock tubing, with a specific emphasis on the factory catalytic converters. Replacing the mid-pipe with aftermarket 2009-2014 Ford F-150 mid-pipe is a popular and painless way to boost your truck's horsepower and torque. The stock 2009-2014 mid-pipes are 2.5" in diameter and made from aluminized steel which will eventually corrode and leak. With wider tubing, high flow catalytic converters and mandrel bends rather than crimped bends, aftermarket mid-pipes ease backpressure and let the engine, whether a V6 or V8, breathe much easier. Due to the capacity of the high flow cats, it is sometimes necessary to re-tune the ECU using an aftermarket tuner to take full advantage of the upgraded mid-pipe. Taking readings pre-and-post converter, it is important to verify the O2 sensors are reading correctly as a defective sensor can have a noticeable impact on drivability.
