The fifth generation of the GMC Yukon launched in 2021 have been completely redesigned, making for a larger, more refined and more powerful Yukon than ever before. Using GM's latest flagship T1 platform, the 2021-2024 Yukon - for the first time ever - ditches the truck style live rear axle and is sporting an independent rear suspension in its place. This is a major change for the Yukon model lineup and greatly increases its ride mannerisms and comfort. In addition to the now independent rear suspension, fifth-generation Yukons can be equipped with air springs and magnetic-ride shock absorbers, further pushing GMC's luxury SUV narrative. Trim wise, SLE, SLT and the pinnacle luxury Denali model are all retained - however off-road enthusiasts will be pleased to hear of an AT4 model that has been inserted into the lineup. AT4 models feature 20-inch wheels and all-terrain tires, underbody skid plates, a two speed transfer case and available ride-height adjustable (lift of up to 2-inches) air suspension. In the powertrain department, GMC continues with their recently developed 10-speed automatic transmission paired with either a 5.3L V8, a 6.2L V8 or a new 3.0L turbo-diesel. The gas motors produce 355 horsepower and 420 horsepower respectively, whereas the turbo-diesel makes 277 horsepower with an astounding 460 lb-ft of torque, making the diesel the ideal choice for those owners that want to use their Yukon for towing. All three engines are well suited to the Yukon's jack-of-all-trades role, with plenty of aftermarket support to crank out even more horsepower and torque than the factory ratings.
