2007-2014 GMC Sierra 3500 Accessories, Parts & Mods
The 2007-2014 GMC Sierra 3500 is built upon a high strength steel frame, with the front section being hydroformed and the mid-frame a lipped C-section, upgrading to a fully boxed frame midway through the generation. The front suspension is an independent design using torsion bars and the rear is a three-stage multi-leaf system, assisted by gas-charged shock absorbers. The result is a one-ton truck with a gross combined weight rating in excess of 18,000 lbs for single rear wheel trucks and 23,000 lbs for dual rear wheel equipped trucks. Moving the loads forward is a choice of two engines: a 6.0L gas Vortec V8 or a 6.6L Duramax diesel V8. The Vortec, the base engine for Sierra 3500, initially produced 353 horsepower and 373 lb-ft of torque, eventually finishing the generation with a modest 7HP/7TQ by the end. The Duramax, a common-rail turbocharged diesel V8, started the generation with 365 horsepower and 660 lb-ft. Halfway through production, GMC made some fuel and turbo improvements to the Duramax and it finished this production run with 397 horsepower and a whopping 765 lb-ft of torque. Harnessing the power is the base 6-speed 6L90 HydroMatic transmission, or, a Allison 6-speed automatic was available as optional equipment. If equipped with 4WD, all trim levels except the base - which uses a mechanical floor mounted shifter - use an electronically actuated pushbutton drive select. Also made available was an Eaton Automatic Locking Rear Differential, which would automatically lock the rear wheels together if wheel slip of 100 RPM or more was detected. In terms of interior quality, the later years of the 2007-2014 Sierra 3500 saw GMC start to push a more upscale and premium feel, especially with the Denali models. Amenities like touch screen infotainment, heated and cooled seats, digital gauges and electronic assists (Hill Assist, Park Assist, Trailer Sway Control) started to creep into the lineup by 2014. At the end, whilst still considered part of the same generation, the late model trucks were quite a bit different in look and feel. Updating and customizing the 2007-2014 generation of Sierra 3500 trucks remains a simple and highly accessible feat thanks to large aftermarket support.
