2007-2014 GMC Sierra 2500 Accessories, Parts & Mods
The third generation Sierra 2500 heavy duty pickup truck debuted in 2007, experiencing a slew of upgrades across the board. First and foremost, underpinning the HD Sierra trucks was the all-new GMT900 platform. The body, designed with significantly better aerodynamics, could be ordered as a 2-door regular cab, 4-door extended cab or a full 4-door crew cab with either a short bed (6.5 ft) or long bed (8 ft). In 2011, the Sierra 2500 received a face lift and further structural improvements via a new fully boxed frame. Made from high strength steel, GMC boasted overall stiffness to have improved by 92%. Further, a complete suspension overhaul up front allows all 4WD trucks to support the weight of a snow plow right from the factory. Power came from either a 6.0L Vortec gas V8, a 6.6L Duramax diesel V8. GM's monstrous 8.1L gas V8 was also occasionally found its way into 2007-year trucks. Otherwise, those first two engines were the powerplant offerings over the entire generation. By the end, the Vortec was rated at 360 horsepower/380 lb-ft of torque and the larger Duramax diesel at 397 horsepower/765 lb-ft of torque. Moving the power to the wheels is either a Hydra-Matic 6L90 6-speed automatic or an even stronger 6-speed Allison automatic is optional for diesel trucks. Already quite capable trucks, third generation Sierra 2500s are very easy to customize and improve. For instance, both the 6.6L Duramax diesel and Gen IV 6.0L small-block V8 are extremely responsive to a custom tune and a free flowing exhaust.
