2019-2024 Dodge Ram Accessories & Parts
After a nine-year run of the 4th generation, the 5th gen of Ram trucks is finally upon us. Starting in 2019, Ram gives the world a new but familiar platform. The overall profile of the new Ram is similar to the previous model, but some obvious styling adjustments and a few tweaks that make create some major differences.
The first difference Ram lovers will quickly notice are the changes to the front end. The available grilles are much more refined, and Ram has done away with the crosshair style. The headlights are much more streamlined to match the sleeker bodylines. Buyers will also get to choose from three headlight styles.
Why so smooth? Well, Ram took the initiative to increase the aerodynamics of the truck. That’s right; this bad boy may look like a brick but cuts through the proverbial wind like butter. The engineers took to the wind tunnel to bring its drag coefficient down to 0.357 (to put this into perspective, most sporty cars are under 0.30…the 1969 Dodge was 0.28!). In comparison to high performance vehicles this seems quite lousy. However, for a truck it’s impressive, especially considering this is within the ballpark of much smaller vehicles like the Challenger and Charger.
Despite its sleeker styling and design, this Ram is actually larger than its predecessor by approximately 4 inches from front to back. Those extra 4 inches are used to increase the interior room of the vehicle. One major factor that separates this Ram from the others is there is no longer a single cab option for 2019. Instead, buyers will choose from either the Club Cab or Crew Cab.
The interior is spacious and accommodating but the level depends, naturally, on the model selected. Ram did do away with a majority of the trim levels offered in 2018, leaving buyers with six to choose from. However, considering the Tradesman, Limited, and Big Horn are back, Chrysler has the right option for anyone. Depending on the styling, they can either be fitted with either the 5.7 foot or 6.4 foot bed with or without Ram Boxes.
For the opening act, the 2019-2024 Ram 1500 is available with two engine options. The 5.7 Hemi V8 returns, and produces 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. Additionally, for the more economically minded buyers there’s the option of the Pentastar 3.6 V6 that produces 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. Either engine will be fitted with an eight-speed transmission that features the dial-type gear selector. Out back the differential has three gearing options. Depending on the model, buyers will have the choice either a 3.21:1, 3.55:1, or 3.92:1 gear ratio. With the 5.7 Hemi coupled with 3.92 gears and the Mild Hybrid system, the truck can tow up to 12,750 lbs.
These are familiar power plants to Chrysler enthusiasts until they are paired with Ram’s all-new Mild Hybrid system. This system works to boost power output at low engine speeds. The idea behind the mild hybrid system is to increase the trucks ability to get up to speed when encumbered with a heavy load or the weight of a trailer. It does increase the Pentastar model’s torque output by 90 lb-ft, and the Hemi’s by 130 lb-ft., however, it works to level out the power curve as opposed to focusing on peak output.
This is a whole new design, and the aftermarket will catch up. AmericanTrucks has supported the Ram community by supplying them with everything their hearts could desire.
