2011-2016 Ford F-250 Accessories, Parts & Mods
The third generation F-250 Super Duty began its reign as an award winning truck and it’s easy to see why. The bigger front face gives the truck a bold look in comparison to its predecessor, and the thicker frame in comparison to the competition keeps Ford at the top of the truck ladder. While not entirely a redesign (why fix what isn’t broken?), this iteration of the Super Duty is more than capable for hauling and working. All of the third generation F-250s come with the 6R140 automatic transmission. Developed in the U.S., the 6R140 TorqShift was engineered for the Power Stroke diesel. The “Live Drive” system allows drivers to keep the Power Stroke at low RPMs without stalling, easing the difficulty of take off from a stop. This transmission also features two overdrive gears (5th and 6th). This generation also introduced locking differentials to the Super Duty lineup.
In terms of engine availability, you have the legendary 6.2L Boss V8. Right off the assembly line, the 6.2L is E85 capable. Horsepower and torque numbers vary by submodel, but expect horsepower to be in the range of 316-385 and torque to be around 397-405 ft-lbs. The Power Stroke 6.7L engine actually started off with less power. Ford developed this engine without outside influence, only Ford parts for this beast. When Chevy released their updated diesel platform, Ford wasn’t to be outdone. They increased its output to 400 horsepower and 800 ft-lbs of torque, and offered a free upgrade to anyone with the first iteration of the Power Stroke. Talk about a great recall! The Power Stroke diesel actually has two different cooling systems to compensate for certain temperature thresholds.
