2019 Ram 1500
The Ram 1500 is all-new for 2019. Despite an extensive redesign and a plethora of new tech features, the 2019 Ram 1500 is more of the same – and yet, it is better than before. It still has a coil-sprung rear suspension that delivers the smoothest ride in the half-ton pickup class, but it remains a class leader in hauling and towing. It now has a more rugged steel frame, but Ram claims the new truck is 225 pounds lighter than before. The Ram 1500 is available in a six-passenger quad cab body style or an optional Crew Cab with full-size rear doors. The quad cab has a standard 6.4-foot bed, while the crew cab can have the optional 5.7-foot long bed. The standard engine is a 3.6-liter V6 with eTorque. It produces 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. Of course, you can get the 5.7-liter HEMI V8 with 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. Both motors have an eight-speed automatic with standard rear-wheel drive and a 3.21 axle ratio. 4WD is available across the board with a 3.55 or 3.92 axle ratio if you need more grip.
Relentless Traction
Improving traction and road grip is more than just upgrading to chunkier all-terrain or mud-terrain tires. Replacing the factory differential with an air locking unit converts the drivetrain from an open to a complete spool-type axle that supplies 100-percent of torque to all driving wheels. Most air lockers are compatible with all gear ratios and will not alter your truck's driveability or top speed. The only side effect is 100-percent traction on demand without deteriorating other driveline components. Regarding tires, consider upgrading the differential gears to a lower axle ratio to counteract the negative impacts of installing a bigger wheel and tire combo. Remember, it takes more torque to move heavier and larger wheels and tires, and your truck needs to burn more fuel to do so. Swapping gears with a lower axle ratio is typically enough to negate the effects of giant wheels and tires. It also realigns the shift points of the automatic transmission while resetting the speedometer. Best of all, using the correct gearing will reduce undue stress on the powertrain and driveline.
Aggressive Form
The 2019 Ram 1500 is a nice-looking truck. Upgrading to a more rugged set of front and rear bumpers will open new possibilities for other mods. Off-road bumpers are made of high-strength yet lightweight steel to withstand the elements. If you frequently play in the wilderness, aftermarket bumpers can make your 2019 Ram 1500 more capapable due to better approach and departure angles, alongside increased room for suspension travel (often, aftermarket bumpers are a bit shorter in order to give more space around the front of the tire). Consider installing a new set of off-road bumpers to enjoy many benefits like having more recovery hooks, better ground clearance, absolute protection against nicks and bumps, and the ability to add more lighting and accessories without complicated modifications.
No Small Talk
Contrary to popular belief, large exhausts are not just about making loud noises. Aftermarket exhaust systems have larger diameter piping and high-grade mandrel-bent tubing to improve the exhaust flow. Better flow means more power, and a faster exhaust flow will improve the high-end power output of your 2019 Ram 1500. Depending on the brand and type of exhaust, installing an exhaust upgrade could enhance the power and torque output of your Ram's V6 and V8 engine. Even a moderate power boost is enough to improve the acceleration and throttle response. Better torque means higher fuel economy as it takes less throttle input to maintain your truck's speed. In addition, aftermarket exhausts can last longer than factory exhaust systems due to better materials like T409 and T304 grade stainless steel construction.
