1997-2003 Ford F-150 Headers

High-performance 1997-2003 Ford F-150 Headers improve exhaust scavenging with mandrel-bent primary tubes that eliminate factory restrictions at the cylinder heads. They maintain proper collector geometry while potentially delivering modest power gains alongside that distinctive exhaust note enthusiasts love during acceleration.

Primary tube design creates significant performance differences between 1997-2003 Ford F-150 Headers, with tube length and diameter affecting powerband characteristics. Quality headers include proper collector merging that enhances exhaust scavenging while maintaining catalyst efficiency that prevents emissions issues common with poorly designed systems.

If you're looking for a little more low-end grunt for your 1997-2003 Ford F-150 pickup, swapping out the stock exhaust manifold for a performance header is the best way to start. The cast iron log manifolds that come equipped as stock on 97-03 Ford F-150s are extremely restrictive. The porous iron casting and lack of any individual cylinder primary tube length seriously hampers exhaust performance. A tubular type aftermarket shorty header significantly alleviates the traffic jam of exhaust that occurs in the stock manifold for a noticeable gain in power and torque. Usually available in chrome, stainless steel or ceramic coated, these non-porous materials, in combination with 3/16" thick mating flanges, are significantly less susceptible to leakage and corrosion (using a quality header gasket further reduces the chance of a leak or burnout at the head). Designed as a bolt-in piece, aftermarket headers will line-up with the factory y-pipe for a hassle free installation. While in the area, replacing the stock y-pipe with one that has high flow catalytic converters is another effective and popular way to increase engine performance.
