A good header maximizes exhaust scavenging and promotes efficient transfer to the collectors. In this regard, the stock exhaust manifolds on 2015-2016 5.0L Ford F-150's leave a lot to be desired. Their log design, while space saving, are very inefficient at evacuating the combustion chamber and provide a major bottleneck for the exhaust system as a whole. Aftermarket Ford F-150 headers feature larger 1-7/8" unique primary tubes for each cylinder before merging at the collector. This style of design minimizes the interference between the exhaust pulses of each cylinder and maximizes exhaust flow. In layman's terms, this equates to a greatly noticeable increase in horsepower (up to 30 HP in some cases) and a pleasing assertive sound. Mandrel bent and made of stainless steel, performance headers are a great upgrade over the factory Ford porous cast-iron manifolds, which are prone to rust and leakage. Also, be sure to match any header with a good quality header gasket as the stock paper gaskets burn out easily and cause nauseating leaks. Couple an aftermarket header with a performance cat-back and reap both added horsepower and an awesome sound.
