Types of GMC Sierra Truck Covers
There are several types of GMC truck covers to choose from and they include
- Cab cover
- Full truck cover
- Front end cover
- Windshield cover
When it comes to GMC Sierra truck covers, you have some options on the type of coverage you want and how much you want covered. You have options for parked coverage as well as moving coverage.
Sierra Cab Covers
GMC Sierra cab covers only cover the front half of your pickup truck, leaving everything behind the cab, i.e. the bed, uncovered. Sierra cab covers are easier to put on than a full cover, taking less time to put on, and they cover the most essential part of your truck's appearance. Cab covers are a phenomenal option for Sierra owners that have a cap on the bed of their truck, making regular car covers not an option.
Cab covers are typically constructed from a soft, yet thick fabric that doesn’t damage your paint when you put it on. Cab covers will protect the front of your truck from UV rays/sun soaking, rain, dust, dirt, snow, and even bird poop. Sierra cab covers can cost anywhere from $100 to $400 depending upon the materials used and if it has a design/logo on it, both of which will land you in the higher end of the spectrum.
Sierra Truck Covers
GMC Sierra car covers go over your entire truck. Unlike cab covers, car/truck covers provide protection to the cab area as well as the bed, covering you from bumper to bumper and mirror to mirror. Full truck/car covers will take more time to put on due to the size, however your entire truck will be covered. Average time to put on a full truck cover is about 3-5 minutes.
If you have a cap on your Sierra, you will not be able to use a car cover because of the fitment. Sierras with tonneau covers are fine and will be able to use a car cover. Like cab covers, car covers are typically made of the same material and will protect your truck against rain, snow, dirt, dust, sun washing, UV rays, and especially bird poop. Sierra car covers can run you anywhere from $200 to $500 depending on the same factors outlined above.
Sierra Car Bras
Sierra front-end covers, better known as car bras, are designed to add paint protection to your front end. Car bras cover the nose of your truck, including the grille, bumper, and beginning/top of the hood and parts of the sides. Car bras can be either a clear or black plastic type of coating adhesively applied to the front end, or a mesh type of material stretched and secured to the front-end.
Fun fact about car bras: the first one was created in 1961 when a man by the name of Bill Colgan was approached and asked to design a protective covering for the front of a privately owned Porsche 356. Colgan was the owner of a successful upholstery company, which is why three German engineers who wanted to protect the paint on their Porsches approached him. The name “car bra” is short for “car brassiere” as the shape of it vaguely draws similarity to a woman’s bra.
Sierra car bras provide protection to your truck while it is in motion, fending off rock chips, bug guts, and bird poop. Car bras are an ideal upgrade for any Sierra owner who has to take their truck on a long road trip, but also provide excellent protection for normal daily driving. Whether you are taking your truck off-road or down the street to the grocery store, car bras will keep your front end looking fresh, helping you maintain the value of the vehicle along with its looks. If you are interested in adding a car bra to the front of your Sierra, plan on spending about $75 to $250 depending upon the materials used and the total area of coverage.
Sierra Windshield Covers
With all of the large windows on your Sierra, when it sits out during the day, it can bake on the inside. There are few things worse in life than those first few minutes after you get in your vehicle at the end of an afternoon in the summer and begin to melt as you sit inside the truck with an interior temperature that feels like a brick oven.
You can save yourself the experience by adding a windshield cover to your GMC Sierra. Although you can get a windshield covers at many places, when you get one specifically designed for your Sierra, it can make a world of difference. Sierra specific windshield covers will not droop like a generic windshield cover, giving you a tight fit that offers complete protection.
Aside from just keeping temperatures drastically down on the inside of your truck, windshield covers can also combat sun soaking your interior. Like the exterior of your Sierra, the seats, steering wheel, and interior trim pieces can fade over time from being pounded daily by UV rays. A windshield cover will block the ray from coming in your cabin, helping to keep your interior looking brand new. When all is said and done, a windshield cover for your Sierra will end up costing you $100 to $200.
Best Ways to Protect My Sierra’s Paint
If you are interested in keeping the life in your Sierra’s exterior, there are other ways beyond the ones mentioned above to get extra protection. Ceramic coating your paint will help to keep the paint looking shiny and new for years, protecting it from rock chips and small scrapes. Ceramic coating can cost anywhere between $350 and $4,000, which depends on materials used and the amount of time it takes.
You can also add a vinyl or plasti-wrap to your Sierra to protect the exterior. A wrap will cover every inch of the body with the exception of the wheels, windows, bed, and lights with a vinyl wrap that can be any color, finish, or design of your choosing. Wrapping a truck like the Sierra can cost anywhere between $400 and $5,000 depending upon what type of wrap or design you choose.
