2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD

Chevrolet has developed the 2020 Silverado 2500 to be an all-new heavy-duty pickup truck. Available in five trim levels (Work Truck, Custom, LT, LTZ and High Country), this three-quarter ton pickup boasts a massive change in towing ability, despite the heavy-hauling Duramax diesel still retaining a rating of 446 horsepower and 910 lb-ft of torque. Rather, towing increases come courtesy of a strengthened chassis, suspension improvements and the addition of a 10-speed reinforced Allision automatic transmission. Also new in the powertrain is the release of a 6.6L gas V8 (replacing the Vortec 6000), which produces 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque. This new motor features an aluminum block and cylinder heads, forged steel crankshaft, forged powder-metal rods and direct fuel injection.

Tie Down Access

A set of bed rails serve two distinct purposes. First, they look great sitting atop the box in the back. Polished or in black, both add an upscale look to the rear. However, their functionality doesn't only lie in aesthetics. A quality set of bed rails, properly mounted, act as a sturdy and highly versatile tie down point to be used to secure cargo in the bed. Usually made from stainless steel, a T409 or T306 grade bed rail will be extremely strong and highly resistant to discoloration and corrosion (in particular, the 306 grade, which contains more nickel and chromium than 409). Coupled with a low profile mounting bracket, a top mount bed rail will not interfere with a roll-up, sliding or folding tonneau cover. Bed rails that feature square tubing (instead of the traditional round) often feature modular ability, meaning they can be used as a base to build a 'scaffold' or custom rack. A good example of this would be building upwards off the bed rail and creating a rack that can carry a ladder or similarly long object over the roof of the truck. Overall, the critical aspects are bed rail bar construction (stainless steel) and the associated hardware. A stainless rail with mild steel brackets and bolts is asking for dissimilar metal corrosion!

V8 Power Unleashed

With all engines in the 2020 Silverado 2500 lineup producing at least 400 horsepower, is there an easy way to get more? The simple answer is yes, and it doesn't involve replacing any engine components. Rather, reprogramming the Chevrolet PCM/ECM (power control module, engine control module) through a hand held tuner gives 2020 three-quarter ton truck owners the ability to drastically change their trucks performance.

  • Performance tune, economy tune, towing tune & custom tunes available
  • Speedo calibration, tire sizing, axle ratio correction
  • Read and trouble shoot diagnostic codes
  • Monitor real-time sensor data

2020 Silverado 2500 tuners come pre-loaded with three base tunes: a performance version, an economy version and a towing version. Most owners are mainly interested in the performance tune, which tweaks the timing, fueling and spark to produce more horsepower and torque. In the case of the 6.6L gas V8, owners can expect to see a 20-30 horsepower increase (more, if coupled with other supporting mods like a cold air intake and performance exhaust system). Diesel owners will really see huge gains, as much as 120 horses and similar in torque, tweaking similar parameters as the gas engine in addition to increasing turbo boost. Finally, if these 'can' tunes aren't enough, a custom tune can be developed (working alongside a professional tuner), sent to your tuner and then uploaded to the truck.
