2007 saw Chevrolet revamp their Silverado 2500 heavy duty pickup, featuring big changes on the exterior, interior and under the hood. Based on their new GMT900 platform, the re-designed cab sits atop a fully-boxed high-strength steel frame with a hydroformed front clip. In 2011, midway through the generation, Chevrolet once more redesigned the frame and the newer variant boasts a 92% increase in stiffness over the original 2007 iteration. Alongside the frame, improvements were made to the front and rear suspension. The former received new forged control arms and a torsion bar matched specifically for the axle rating, promoting better stance, tire wear and on-road comfort. Out back, an asymmetrical leaf spring design was implemented in order to better control wheel hop and axle torsion. By the end of the generation, max payload (2WD, long box Vortec V8) was rated at 4212 lbs, an increase of 589 lbs since the debut of the 2007 Silverado 2500. To haul this cargo around was a choice of two engines: 1) a 6.0L Vortec gas V8 and; 2) a 6.6L Duramax turbocharged diesel V8. The Vortec V8 was rated at 360 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque over the entire production run of the 2007-2014 Silverado 2500. The Duramax diesel, on the other hand, saw a 32 horsepower and 105 lb-ft torque gain in 2011, bringing the final power numbers to 397 HP and 765 TQ. Inside the cab, owners could select from a list of 4 color themes, all available in vinyl, cloth or leather. Heated and cooled power seats, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth connectivity and a rear-view camera round up the premium interior components offered at the time.
