Hey, guys. It's Sara with americantrucks.com, and today we have a review and install of the LED Tail Lights in Black fitting your '09 to '18 Ram 1500 without the factory LED Tail Lights. These are perfect for the Ram owner who's looking to upgrade their tail lights to an LED tail light and wants a style upgrade as well with these LED accents and black housings. These black tail lights feature bright LEDs for better visibility, and they provide a style upgrade to the back of your truck as well. They feature UV treated clear polycarbonate lenses with black housings as well as accent LEDs to give your truck a more modern look. They feature waterproof construction and are DOT and SAE approved, meaning they're legal for on-road use. So, as far as price goes, these come in at around $300 for the pair, putting them middle of the road price wise when compared to other options. And for your money, you're getting an LED tail light with that blacked out style that you're looking for.I'm giving this install a one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. It features a direct plug and play install with no wiring required and can be done within one hour. So, with that said, let's get into our install. For this install you will need a ratchet, and a T25 Torx socket. All right, so the first step in our uninstall with your tailgate down you can see two bolts on the inside of the tail light. This is a T25 Torx bolt, so grab a T25 Torx socket and a ratchet and let's get these out. With the bolts out, grab your tail light and pull straight back. You'll see two connectors, pull back on the red tab on the top connector, push down and remove it. Onto the bottom connector, press down on the tab and remove this one as well. All right, so one last small step before we install our tail light, we do have new clips that come with the tail light. So, we're just gonna squeeze the edge of these clips to remove them so we can install the new ones. Now if you can't get these by hand, you can use a small needle nose, a small flathead, there's four tabs on each of these clips, just push them down, pull it out. Next up we're gonna peel the double-sided adhesive off of the ballast, and we're gonna mount this inside the truck. We're gonna go for a metal surface because these do get quite warm. So, let's get it mounted up here out of the way and now we have this connector hanging that we can hook up with our tail light.Next up, we can hook up the wiring harness for our tail light. We're gonna start with the ballast connector that we just hooked up. Moving on the other large black plug, line it up with the main harness for your tail light. And finally, the smaller plug, this one went to your reverse light. Line it up and plug that one in as well. You do wanna route this out of the way, maybe zip tie it up, make sure that it's not hanging, dangling so it can be cut or burned or anything like that. All right, now you can connect the main harness connector to your tail light. There is a red tab you can press that down on the back, it might be a little hard to see it from that angle. And then because we took these plastic posts off of our previous light, we're gonna install this from the side first. So, line up both of those tabs and press them in. All right, at this point, you can install the factory hardware. All right, so now that we have our factory tail light uninstalled from our truck, we can check it out side by side with our new tail light here. Now, as you can see, they're very different style wise from one another. Our new tail light features a black housing with a clear lens, which is a nice upgrade to the red lens of the factory tail light. In addition, there is a functional difference as well. This one features LEDs which are gonna be much brighter and last much longer than the bulbs of our factory tail light. So, with that said, let's finish up our install.Moving on to the other side, grab your T25 Torx socket and ratchet and remove the bolt. Repeat that for the lower bolt. And you can grab the tail light and pull straight back towards you. Now that you can see the connectors, starting with the top one, pull back on the red tab, press down and remove the connector. Next up, there's one all the way on the bottom. Same thing, press down and remove it. All right, so we're gonna repeat that process on the other side. We do need to remove these little posts real quick. Just pressing down on the tabs. You can get a needle nose or some small flathead screwdriver just to get the tabs in. Next up, we're installing the ballast. Again, we're gonna go up inside the bed of the truck here on a metal surface because it does get a little bit on the warm side. Now we can hook up the wiring harness starting with the connector for the ballast. And we're gonna do the larger connector here. This is the main connector for your tail light. Make sure you're lining up each of the tabs properly. And finally the smaller connector for the reverse lights. Again, we're just gonna route this out of the way, you may wanna throw a couple zip ties, wanna make sure it's secured. All right, now we can plug in the main harness to the tail light. Depress the red tab down. And now we're gonna line up the two pins on each side with the two holes here in the side of the bed and press it into place. And finally we can install the factory hardware. Grab your T25 Torx socket and tighten it down. All right, so that is gonna do it for the review and install of these LED tail lights, and remember for all things Ram, keep it at americantrucks.com.
