Justin: What's going on, guys? Justin here at americantrucks.com, and today I'm taking a closer look at and installing the MSD Blaster Coil Packs, available for your 2011 through 2017 6.2-liter-powered F-250. Now, this set of eight coil packs should appeal to the truck owners out there looking to replace a set of faulty or failing stockers with something that's not only gonna produce a much hotter spark over your stock coils, but something from one of the most trusted names in aftermarket emission, all with a near-perfect five-star rating here on the site. Now, before we go a little bit deeper into the MSD Blasters, I do wanna point out that moving into an aftermarket coil pack, such as the MSD, isn't gonna traditionally yield massive power gains by itself. And if it does, well, that's probably because the coils you are replacing were just on their way out, or total trash, and just not allowing your SD to perform at peak levels. Now, I'm not standing up here and saying there's zero benefits to installing something like that, because there definitely is, but I also don't wanna stand up here and tell you that adding something like this is gonna make 20-plus wheel horsepower on your F-250. Now, what the Blasters will do is help smooth out an idle and revs, barring a good set of plugs, of course, and also help clear up any high-RPM misfires. That's a biggie here with the 6.2, and something a lot of our customers have pointed out. Now, even in some extreme cases, you will even see some improved fuel economy, depending on just how bad a shape your factory coils were in. Now, MSD claims all of this is gonna be possible thanks to the increased voltage, nearly 36,000 total volts, provided by the Blasters that we have here on the table today. And again, guys, don't take my word for it. We have a nearly perfect rating on this particular kit for the 6.2 trucks out there. Definitely read up on some of those results, to hear from fellow Super Duty owners about their experience. Now, moving into our construction block, guys, and MSD does build these coils using their patented primary and secondary winding internals, and they will feature that factory-style female socket coil wire design, which does make these a very simple swap on any 6.2-powered truck at home. Now, the cherry on top here in this case, literally, will be the red finish on the body itself here, which will be slightly visible underneath the hood. Not a massive improvement in appearance, but certainly something that you will notice after the install. Now, I do also wanna point out that the Blasters are given a one-year limited warranty, just in case you run into any issues right out of the box.Moving into our pricing segment here, and the MSD Blaster Coil Pack for the 6.2 will live in that mid $500 range. Definitely gonna put these in the more premium category here on the site, when looking into an aftermarket coil. As always, guys, if you want to save some money, can always go with a stock replacement, or even some more budget-friendly versions from a company like SR Performance or C&L. Might save you a couple hundred bucks at the end of the day, but totally up to you.All right. Last but not least, let's get into our installation portion of today's video. Site's gonna go solid 1 out of 3 wrenches on the difficulty meter, taking you about an hour, at absolute most, to complete, from start to finish. Very, very simple stuff here, guys. Plug-and-play install for the wiring and the coils themselves. But, enough about that. What do you say we throw it out to the shop for our detailed walkthrough and tool breakdown?Man: For this install, you will need an impact, a ratchet, an extension, 8-millimeter swivel, and deep sockets, and a clip removal tool. What's up, guys? Today we're gonna be doing some ignition coils on our F-250, so let's get started. All right, guys. So, we've got the hood open. We're up in our engine bay. I'm on this convenient top side creeper. Helps because I'm not so tall. We're gonna need to remove our air box, as well as our entire intake assembly, all the way up to our throttle body. There's a few things we need to do in order to get this off. We have to unplug our mass airflow sensor. We have to unhook our air box. We have to unhook some hoses on this side and this side, and undo our clamp for our throttle body, and then we can get this off. So we'll begin that process now.So, first, we'll unplug our mass airflow sensor. The tab for the connector is on the bottom side. There's a red safety tab on the bottom of that, and you'll need to pop that back. We can push down on our tab, and unplug our mass airflow sensor. And once we have that unplugged, we'll undo the latch clips for our upper air box. Pop those off. We can get this hose out of the way. This can stay on. Just needs to come out of these retainers, so that we can move it around. Once we have those off, we can unhook our PCV and our other vacuum line. Now, this bigger connector has a gray tab on the backside of it. You just push that out, and that should pop right off. And this line should just slide off of that nipple. And we have some other connectors on the other side, and we'll go over there and get those now.Now we've got some clips holding a few hoses on this side. We're gonna grab our clip removal tool. Have to go underneath for this one. Bit of a tight fit. We should be able to pop that off. Work it around a bit. Get that out of there. And also get this one. Pop up, and out. That way, we can just move it aside, like so. Next, we'll get our clamp for our throttle body. Now we're gonna loosen our clamp for our intake to our throttle body. I've got an 8-millimeter swivel socket and extension on our impact. Now, this is gonna be hard to see, because it's right back down in here, and the nut for it should be on the left side, passenger side. I'll get down in there. And we got that good and loose. Get our intake off. And get that off the throttle body. This one needs to come out and up. And we can pull our intake up and out of the way, and set it aside. Now that we have our intake off, we have access to all of our ignition coils. Now, these are held on by an 8-millimeter bolt, as well as our spark plug wire and our connector. So, what we're gonna do is you wanna do these one at a time. So, we'll start with this one. So, we'll pop our safety tab back on our connector, and unplug that. We can unplug our spark plug wire. Now, you wanna be careful with these. And once you have that off, we'll grab our 8-mill socket on our ratchet. Take our retainer bolt out. We can pop the coil out. Now we can grab our new coils and install them one at a time. So, we're gonna repeat this same exact process that we're about to do for every coil. So, now we can install our new coil. It's gonna go right in the factory location. Line that up, and onto our spark plug. Grab that 8-millimeter bolt. Once again, we'll grab our 8-mill socket, tighten this down. Once we have it tightened down, plug our connector back in. Lock our safety tab down. Get our spark plug wire back in. And once you have your first one in, you can repeat this same process for the rest of your coils. Now, once we have all of our coils installed, it's time to reinstall our air box and intake. We got this here. Wanna remember to lift this coolant hose up, because it goes over top of your intake. We'll get this in position. Lift this hose up. Slide this back into position. Make sure our air box goes back into place. Set that down. Line up our dowels. Get this realigned on our throttle body. There we go. All right. First, we'll tighten back down our clamp for our intake to our throttle body. Again, we've got our 8-mill swivel socket and extension. This one is hard to see. Once we've got that tightened down, we can reinstall our clips for these lines here. Pop those back through. This one goes over top. Next, we'll reattach our PCV and vent lines. PCV is just gonna clip right back on. Vent line is gonna go back on there. And we'll set our coolant line back into its retainers. Then we can plug our mass airflow sensor back in and clip our air box back down. Make sure to lock that safety tab back in. Reinstall all of your clips. One underneath the intake tube itself. That'll do it.All righty, guys. That about wraps up our review and install of our MSD Blaster Series Ignition Coils, in Red Finish, for your '11 to '17 6.2-liter F-250 Super Duty. Thanks for watching, and as always, for everything F-250, keep it right here at americantrucks.com.

Definitely an upgrade you need !

So everyone knows there’s spark plug wire issues with the 7.3 Godzilla, since I upgraded my wires and went right ahead and purchased a set of these, easy to install, just wish it came with new bolts to bolt the coil packs down. I’d advise anyone who’s doing your spark plug wires/new plugs at the same time make sure you get High temp boot covers. You can see where the cable end is wearing down due to the heat from the headers. Also don’t buy the oem ones that come with the oem coil packs. Buy the oem ones that are for the RV 7.3 godzilla motors, they are heavy duty compared to the regular truck version. And won’t break down as quickly due to the heat .
