Review shared from Mishimoto Baffled Oil Catch Can (19-23 Ranger)

      Difficult Install but functional

After doing research about oil catch cans I decided to purchase one for my 2.3l ecoboost ford ranger because it is direct injected. I went with this one specifically because it was in the middle of other options price wise. From reading other reviews I heard that the hoses included have been prematurely breaking down on many peoples' units, many people citing the heat from the engine being the problem. I called Mishimoto's customer support wondering if this has been addressed. They said it has not, and stated they think it could be due to varying ethanol contents in fuels. I ended up purchasing some heat shielding from my local autoparts store, and soaked the hoses with silicon lubricant, so I'll see how long it lasts. This install is way more difficult that the online installation video will make it seem. I highly recommend taking the extra 20 minutes to jack your truck and remove your driver side tire, it will make life way easier (figured this out the hard way). While trying to remove the stock pcv hose, i accidentally broke the grommet that holds the red pcv elbow down (part # 1S7Z6A892AAA), and had to order another one. The can itself was easy to setup and mount in the engine bay. After driving for the first ~175 miles, i checked the can and there was a decent amount of content in there (see photo), seemed like a mix of water and gas, not much oil

      Looks great, doesn’t fit.

This cap is well packaged & looks great, however it doesn’t fit. On my 2019 Ranger the oil cap has 2 different sized slots to slide over the 2 different sized tangs. This cap they are both small slots. Broke out my die grinder & cut the slot bigger & now it fits like a glove.

      Wicked hard

Hardest install yet! Unless you have a lift or really tiny tiny hands it’s a knuckle breaker for sure! Once the factory hose is removed (no easy task) adding the new ones is just as difficult! I have a 2022 Ranger and I’m not sure if there’s an added electrical component that older models don’t have because there’s a clip that’s dead smack in the way of seeing one of the hose connections that made it even more difficult for me! One the hoses are on though its a breeze and looks great!

      Not fun to install

I’d give the product five stars if the hoses were better quality and lasted longer. The Catch can itself is good quality however I am hearing that the hoses don’t last very long which is discouraging knowing at some point I will have to go through the trouble of having to redo that again and doing it once was not easy. Nothing against the product itself other than the hoses…the location of where the connections go onto the vehicle itself are hard to get to and hard to see what you’re doing due to the limited access.

      Best product if ever bought

I have pics on the site after I installed and drove 200mi. I couldn’t believe the amount of slug and water that was in the canister. If it caught that much after a few hundred miles. This was an easy install and well worth the money.

      Work well!

The fitment of this catch can is beautiful. Very inconspicuous location. Looks like it came with the truck from the factory. Installation was a bit tricky. The location of the hose is very difficult to reach and tight. Fortunately, my niece's fiance is a mechanic and was with me when I was installing it. He was able to get in there and replace the connections for me. I had no chance on my own. I could reach it but could not remove the old line blindly as it was.
