Hey guys, Adam here with americantrucks.com. And today, we're taking a closer look at, listening to, and installing the Borla Touring Dual Exhaust System with Black Chrome Tips, available for the 2019 and newer 5.7-liter RAM 1500 with the factory dual exhaust. Right off the bat, guys, as you just heard from our sound clips, this is going to be one of the more mellow aftermarket cat-backs. Now, in the category, you typically find that some of the louder options for the 5.7 RAM with very few that keep it a little bit more on the mellow side for the guys just looking for maybe a deeper throatier tone instead of loud volume. Now, if that sounds like you, if you're just looking for something that's more aggressive, a deep throaty rumble, but also something that has a much more attractive appearance with the tips, this is a great way to go.I'm giving this two out of five on our loudness meter. Now, five out of five is typically blowing your ears out, and then from there back down to one is typically stock sounding. This one's just a little bit beefier than stock, absolutely no drone inside the cabin at highway speeds or even really close to full throttle. So even up at redline, it's still not going to blow your ears out. It's just got a really crisp, awesome sound from idle all the way up to redline. Now this one is, of course, using the Borla name so it's made from the highest quality materials, 304 stainless steel throughout, which means it's corrosion and rust-resistant. Perfect for guys like us here located in a wintery weather area, seeing a lot of road salt in the wintery months that we already know can corrode away the exhaust materials under the vehicle. 304 is the most corrosion rust-resistant in the category, and Borla is known for bringing that quality every time. The nice thing about the Borla exhaust are tips. Borla always comes complete with the tips here. This is a 4.5-inch slash-cut, double-walled, polished stainless steel with a black chrome finish on top. The black chrome is super mirror-like reflective. It looks really good, super-aggressive, and it's a little bit stealthier than the more traditional chrome. Now, if you're not a fan of the black and you want to keep it a little bit more on the traditional side, Borla does offer the same system with chrome tips for the guys looking for a little bit more of a mirror-like shine polish instead of black. Now the price tag for this Borla Touring here comes in right around 1,100 bucks for the entire system. The only thing it doesn't come with is the inlet pipe because you're reusing the factory inlet pipe. So, there's no need to worry about uninstalling every single piece of your factory exhaust, that inlet pipe will stay there coming out of your cat pipe. Now, if you're interested in Borla but maybe you want a little bit more volume, Borla does have a series of exhausts with different volume ranges. The Touring is the more mellow, the Stinger S-Type beefs up the sound just a little bit and keep it still in the daily driver range, and then finally, the Borla ATAK is the loudest of the loud, getting five out of five on the loudness meter. This one here is again more on the mellow side, but there are options for guys looking for more volume.Install-wise, I'm giving it two out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter. It is a complete bolt-on install with no cutting required. However, getting your factory exhaust off can be pretty difficult if you're just working in the driveway at home on a flat surface. I highly recommend getting the vehicle up in the air, whether it be a lift if you have access to one, but at least on some ramps to give you a little bit more height. The exhaust from the passenger side all the way back to the cat pipe is all one piece. So getting that over the rear axle and clearing it to get it off in one piece will be pretty difficult if you don't have enough height for the vehicle to be up in the air. And in which case, if you don't have access to anything to get the vehicle up, you may want to result to cutting it in a couple of different pieces to make it easier to get off. Not required, so I'm still giving it two out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter. You can tackle this in about two, maybe three hours from start to finish. I'll walk you through the entire process. Let's get started.Tools used in the install include impact gun, a ratchet, 13, 14, 15, and 16-millimeter deep sockets, 14-millimeter wrench, hanger removal tool is recommended, WD-40 or something similar, a pry bar comes in handy, as well as some safety glasses. First step here, we're going to grab our hanger removal tool and pop the hanger off right above our resonator on our passenger side tail pipe. The driver-side tail pipe is one piece all the way back to the muffler inlet, so we're going to attack that later. So, for right now, we're going to do this. And I've lubricated it with WD-40, it makes life a little bit easier. All right. Next step, grab your ratchet and your 15-millimeter deep socket and we're going to loosen up the clamp holding the tail pipe to the rest of your exhaust assembly. All right. Hanger is out of position, clamp is loosened up, let's get this exhaust pipe off.All right. So, at this point, we're going to focus on our driver-side tail pipe. Now, like I said, it's all one piece, I have a pole jack here right behind the resonator just to give it some support once you start disconnecting things. I am going to remove this tip, however. Removing this tip gives you another foot, maybe foot and a few inches of extra space that you don't have to worry about feeding out of the frame. So, we're going to take this guy off with a 13-millimeter socket. Next, we can pop the hanger out of the isolator using our hanger removal tool right above that resonator. All right. So, now we can disconnect the hangers right above the muffler outlet. There's one on each side, grab your hanger removal tool, and get these guys off. And as you can see, I have a pole jack here supporting this as well, so we have two different points of support for this exhaust. Now, for this one, it's tough to get the hanger removal tool in here, so I'm gonna use my pry bar to get this guy off. All right. So, next up, we're going to focus on this flange here. Now you could bypass this and go straight back to the cat, but that's a lot of exhaust to take off in one piece. So, I'm going to separate it here. Now, once we have this taken care of, there is one more hanger to remove, but for now, grab your 16-millimeter socket and disconnect these two bolts. All right. Now, when you pop this guy out of the hanger isolator, this is all going to come loose. So you want to be prepared for that. Before we do so, there's a ground scrap here, I'm just going to disconnect that from the factory tubing. All right. So, that way it dangles here and we can reconnect it to our new exhaust later. So, now we can grab our hanger removal tool and pop that guy off.All right. Now you can take this exhaust off. So, we got our factory exhaust off of our '19 5.7 RAM, and it's on the ground here next to our Borla Touring dual exhaust. I want to take you through some similarities and differences between the two. And the first thing you might notice is the fact that it is not using a new inlet pipe. We're going to be reusing the factory inlet pipe that comes off of the cats. We're going to basically be replacing the muffler back to the tips. So, starting off at that muffler area, we have a 3-inch mandrel-bent inlet pipe going into the muffler with a 2.5-inch dual exhaust pipe coming out of the muffler in the outlet leading back to the tips. Similar to the factory one, it's a little bit bigger of a diameter for the outlet pipes, the factory pipes there are 2-inch, this is a 2.5-inch, slightly bigger in diameter, more flow comes through. You'll also notice that the muffler size is pretty significantly different. This is a huge cylinder, almost like an air compressor whereas this one looks a lot like some of the aftermarket mufflers you're typically used to seeing. This is the Touring muffler, which is the more mellow option in the Borla series or Borla lineup that goes Touring, Stinger S-Type, and ATAK from quietest to loudest. So, the Touring is definitely more mellow as you heard from the sound clips earlier on. Finally, another big difference we want to talk about here are the tips. Now, you have the factory resonators by the tips, resonator delete tips right behind our new tips, so it's pretty much just a straight pipe after the muffler. And then finally, the tips themselves are a massive upgrade. I'm a huge fan of Borla's black chrome. Now the factory tips onto the '19 RAM dual exhaust is actually pretty good. They're a little bit dull, but they're polished chrome. They're around 4 inches in diameter. The new tips from Borla are about 4.5 inches, so they're a much bigger look, and the black chrome is just a black finish that has a mirror-like shine on top. Typically, a black tip is powder-coated. This guy has that mirror-like shine so it's very reflective, very glossy. And in my opinion, looks a whole lot better than the factory tips and a whole lot better than a lot of the options in the category. But obviously, that's a personal preference. If you're more in tune with some of the more stock-like or OEM styles that have a lot of chrome tips, Borla offers the same thing with chrome tips if you're looking for a traditional look. With that said, let's start on the uninstall up with the muffler. So let's get to it. All right. First things first, we're going to grab our muffler assembly and it's going to attach to the factory inlet pipe. You'll also notice there are two hangers in the front of the muffler and one hanger back behind the muffler where it's going to connect to that in the pipe. Make sure they're hung up too. It might even be a little bit easier to lubricate the hanger isolators on the frame first or lubricate the hangers themselves. I've already taken care of that. It's obviously optional. At this point, let's get it up. At this point, fit it up over the axle and I'm going to start by connecting the hanger by the inlet pipe first. All right. So, now again, with this lubricated it becomes a lot easier, slide this guy in. Do the same thing in front of the muffler. All right. Next up, we're going to lift up the exhaust here and connect to the same thing above our mufflers. Again, lubrication is definitely gonna be your friend here. There's one, here's the other. So, next up, we're going to connect the factory inlet pipe to our new muffler pipe that we just installed using the factory 16-millimeter bolts, going from the front toward the back. The new Borla exhaust has the threading already built into this flange, so it's going to tighten down just as it was from the factory. Make sure you have the factory gasket in between. It should just still be on the factory inlet. If it came off with the other portion of the factory exhaust, swap it over. Ours is still on there. All right. Once you have it in a couple of threads, do the same thing for the top bolt and then tighten them down. I'm gonna use a 16-millimeter swivel socket to make life easier and tighten those down. Make sure the gap between both pipes is closed and now we can move on. All right. Next up, we're going to reinstall our passenger side tail pipe, swing that guy over that rear subframe, connect it to the muffler outlet pipe on the passenger side. Make sure there's a clamp on there before you connect it, swing it up, and connect to the hanger right behind the tip. Grab your 15 deep socket and tighten down that clamp. All right. Next, we're going to start on our driver side. We have one pipe that's gonna cross over behind the spare tire. Make sure you have a clamp on first. Bring that guy up. So it's a tight squeeze, but you can just wiggle that guy on and slowly drop it into place.Just like that. Make sure it's angled the right way. And I'm not going to tighten down this clamp yet, let's connect the rest of it. We want to have some flexibility and versatility in that pipe so we know it's angled properly. Last pipe is going to be our driver side tail pipe. Make sure you have a clamp on it. Connect it to the pipe we just installed. But remember it's not tightened back there. So you want to hold that in place, wiggle this pipe on, bring it up, and connect it to the hanger isolator. All right. Pull this hanger isolator back and connect to that pipe. Now, we can tighten down the clamps. All right. Bring your clamp up and tighten it down. Last clamp, just above the rear axle. All right. Make sure all of your pipes are aligned properly and you're good to go.That's gonna wrap up my review, sound clip, and install for the Borla Touring Dual Exhaust Cat-Back available with Black Chrome Tips for the '19 and newer 5.7 RAM 1500 with the factory dual exhaust. Borla cat back
I am very pleased with the purchase. The exhaust sounds good when you want it but no drone in the cab when cruising.

Great sounding system
Excellent sounding system. Installed right back into the factory location without issue.

Aggressive
I bought this for the aggressive tone but not be obnoxiously loud. Well it was much louder than in the video. Ended up installing the optional resonator and now it’s just right.

High quality exhaust, but louder than expected.
As the title states, I have absolutely zero complaints about the quality of this beautifully crafted system. It is (was), however, considerably louder than I expected for a daily driven truck. VERY loud on cold start and significantly louder than stock even feathering the throttle. Can't imagine what the S-Type and Atak sound like. I just added a Borla resonator and it is now perfect. Exactly the sound I was aiming for - moderately aggressive at part throttle, nasty at WOT and only marginally louder than stock at highway cruise. My initial buyer's remorse is long gone.

Great exhaust!
This took about an hour and a half to install in my garage. It took more time to remove the factory exhaust than it did putting in the new pieces. The fit was perfect and the mellow exhaust note is robust without being obnoxious. I'd say it is the perfect blend of snarl with a touch of brrrap at a volume that allows a casual conversation when you drive. I gave 3 stars for Bang For Your Buck along with 2 stars for Performance Gain, simply because I did not do any dyno comparisons before and after for a true answer. I feel everything these days is over priced, but this system is the industry standard and as such, is a respectable price for the product you get. There is just enough of a gain under full throttle to notice an improvement. Pairing it with a cold air intake and throttle spacer, I feel would make a substantial gain and adding large diameter long tube headers would put the 5.7 on the heels of a stock 6.4 Hemi for power. All things considered, I'd give this a solid 3.5-4 star rating.

Wow...looks and sounds great
Recently installed the Borla Touring exhaust on my brand new 2022 Ram Limited. For anyone wondering if this system is loud enough of if they should move up to the S-Type, I can confidently say this thing is a beast. Unless your nearest neighbor is a half mile away or you want your truck to sound like a top fuel dragster, the Touring provides more than enough grunt. Even inside the cab with music at a comfortable listening level, mild acceleration is quite throaty. Anything more would sound ridiculous, particularly if you plan on being seen in professional settings or dropping your kids off at school. From an installation standpoint, the hardest part is getting the factory exhaust off. The rubber isolators are always a pain in the ass, even with a brand new vehicle. That said, all the reviews and installation instructions you see say that you'll need to cut the factory exhaust to get it out unless you have a lift. I can tell you that is false. I was able to use the air suspension feature and raise the truck to its highest setting, and then with a lot of maneuvering (and cursing), was able to remove it by myself. No jacks, no ramps, just elbow grease. Installing the new system is easy, except you will need a partner to hold the tips in proper alignment while you tighten down the exhaust clamps. Materials are noticeably higher quality than OEM. I would highly recommend.

Loud!
For Borla’s “quietest” exhaust, this exhaust is LOUD. It may be louder than normal with my S&B CAI. Cold starts will be heard by neighbors and the constant rumble is heard on the highway. Don’t get me wrong, this sounds mean and bad ass, just a bit louder than I was expecting. I can’t even imagine how loud the S-Line and the Attak are. I had to cut my original exhaust to get it out. I did this in my driveway with jack stands. Besides the cutting, it was a smooth installation. Get a hangar removal tool 100%. The tips look great.

This is what your looking for!
I had the borla touring cat back installed on my 2021 ram etorque and she is awesome. If your the family guy just looking for that “muscle in your hustle” then this is exactly what your looking for. Nice deep throaty Growl but think low-medium volume. Don’t be put off by reviews that say you can barley hear it because that is not true. Most are looking for exhaust that have the volume all the way UP sound. Plus borla sound is rear directed to keep cabin noise to none. So even if you don’t hear that awesome tone super loud inside, trust me everyone else outside can hahaha. Think high end sport luxury tone. It’s a winner you won’t regret it.
Designed to be used on a Crew Cab with the 5.7 ft. Box. It is not Compatible on RAM 1500 Classic Models, fits the New Body Models Only.
