Hey, guys. Adam here with americantrucks.com and today we're taking a closer look at, installing and, of course, dyno-testing the Bama X4 SF4 Power Flash Tuner by SCT available with two custom tunes for the '15 to '16 3.5-liter EcoBoost F-150. You should be taking a look at this tuner if you're looking for something that has a number of features in addition to having two custom tunes included from Bama Performance and 87 and a higher 93-octane fuel. Now, before we jump into all of the details of the X4 and the tunes included, what do you say I stop talking, we head over to the dyno graph and take a look at some dyno results? All right, taking a look at that dyno graph here we have our 2016 3.5 strapped down to the dyno, 35-inch tires on, which is worth noting, 93-octane in the tank, bone stock otherwise. We did our pull in third gear to avoid hitting our speed limiter and we walked away with 302 horsepower, 339-pound-feet of torque at the rear wheels, stock. We then, of course, uploaded our 93-tune from Bama Performance, ran it again under the same conditions and walked away with 317 horsepower, 378-pound-feet of torque at the rear wheels. That's good for peak gains of 15 horsepower and 39 torque at the rear. Now, those numbers alone are pretty impressive, but let's take a look at the curve gains because that's really what you're going to feel out on the street. And our horsepower gains, we're seeing as much as 65 horsepower and 39-pound-feet of torque have to work under the curve. Those numbers are way better than our peak gains. That is really impressive from a simple 93 tune. Imagine what you could do with a bunch of bolt-on mods in place. At the end of the day, I'm happy with our tune from Bama. All right. So now that we got the dyno graph out of the way, let's break down some of the features of the X4. Now, this guy is what's coming after the beloved X3 tuner from SCT. It's got a new handheld device build and it's got a new interface with a couple of extra features here. Now, the Bama tunes included, you'll get an 87 and a higher octane 93-octane or 93-race tune. The 87, guys, is going to be a great option for anyone out there running a daily driver or a weekend warrior looking to get a little bit extra out of their vehicle on their daily commute to work, something that's going to feel a little bit more sporty and a little bit more responsive. Now, the 93-race tune from Bama is really going to maximize performance here, giving you all that you can get out of your bolt-on mods, whether it be mildly modified or heavily modified. Even bone stock guys with a simple 93-octane tune can get a lot more benefit than just running that factory tune. You'll definitely feel a better throttle response, better acceleration, and as you saw from our dyno graph a second ago, you, obviously, get a good horsepower and torque bump. Now the 93-tune from Bama is going to take things into consideration like air-fuel ratio, timing, spark. They're going to do everything in a safe manner as well, keeping all of those factory sensors in check, making sure you have a safe ride, and a reliable ride at that. Bama also is going to include something that, honestly, is one of my favorite parts of the kit. You'll be automatically enrolled in the Bama Free Tunes for Life program. Anytime you pick up a Bama tune paired with a device like this, the Rev-X or the X4. Now, what the Bama Free Tunes for Life program is, is essentially anytime you need a tune update or a tune revised, you get it for free as long as you have that device and that vehicle paired. So for the lifetime of that vehicle and device being paired, anytime you need something changed, anytime you add a bolt-on mod or even remove it, Bama will rewrite that tune for you for free. Now that, honestly, is going to come in handy because we never stop building our vehicles, right? Now, aside from that, guys, the X4 has a number of other features we want to talk about. It's got a DTC code reader, so anytime the check engine light comes on, plug this bad boy in without needing another OBD-II console reader, all you need to do is plug this guy in, read the code, get the description, and you can clear it right on the device. Aside from that, you'll also get WiFi capabilities and wireless updates for your device. So anytime SCT puts out an update, you can plug this guy in, connect it to a WiFi network and updated wirelessly. Now, the X4 doesn't have cloud access like the Rev-X, but it still does have some really cool things to take advantage of.It also has a gauges and data log feature. You can monitor live engine vitals on the fly within arms reach and eyesight of the driver seat at any time. Plug this guy in, access the gauge screen. You can look at air-fuel ratio, coolant temp, intake temp, and a number of other parameters we'll take a look at and just a little bit. It also has a little mount on the back here, little slots, and I'd recommend picking up the SCT windshield mount separately if you want to take advantage of that. You can mount it right on the windshield with that suction cup mount and check it out in arm's reach. The data log feature allows you to record your engine's performance, communicate that back to your tuner, in this case Bama, in order to make revisions if necessary. Now, that can all be recorded on this device using the gauges screen that I just mentioned. Now, this device is going to come in and right around the $400 mark, maybe a little over the $400 mark and the install is going to get one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter. Anybody can tackle this in the driveway at home with about 30 minutes from start to finish. No hand tools required. I'm going to show you every step of the process. What do you say we start with the upload and then walk through those features? All right, guys. Jumping right into it. Once you have your X4 plugged in, we're going to take you through the process of actually uploading your 5 Star tune. So from the main menu, select program vehicle, continue on street notice. Make sure your keys in the ignition and on, but don't start your engine. Continue. From here, select your tune. Now, we're going to focus on the 93-octane. That's all we have loaded here, but you'll have multiple to pick from, 87 and the higher octane. So select the one you want. From here, you can adjust any of the options if you want to. Now, we are going to use strictly what was sent to us from 5 Star, but you can make adjustments to speed limiter, rev limiter, tire revs per mile, axle ratio, global spark. There's a number of options to mess with here. We're just going to hit approve, but make any changes that you'd want. From there press continue. Hit next on any notices or disclaimers. If you want to change your tire size, you can. We are going to change your tire size because we do have larger tires. So we're going to hit yes. So you want to hit tire size in inches. Now, we're running 35s. So we're going to put 35-inch in there. Press done. 93-octane, changed that tire size, perfect. Once you're finished making any changes, follow the instructions, so turn key off. Wait. From there, it'll instruct you to turn the key back on and wait. From there, it will save your stock tune to the device. So if you ever want to revert back to stock, you can do so and then it'll go into writing your file. All right. From here, it says, "Download complete." You can hit done. Takes you back to the main menu and you're good to go.All right, guys. So I want to take you through some of the other features of the X4. So underneath program vehicle, which not only can do the preloaded but also custom tunes, you'll be able to read gauges and you can data log your vehicle's performance. So gauges, you get to monitor live engine vitals. Once you press continue, key on, it'll bring up configurations and I'll take you through that. So select your vehicle that it applies to. So we're in a '16, so we want to hit Ford Gas 08 and newer, press continue. From there, you'll be able to track things like boost, air-fuel ratio, coolant temp, intake temp, voltage, so on and so forth. So just off the bat here, we have two gauges. Top one says boost in PSI, and bottom, control module voltage. Now, obviously, car's not on, so we're not actually reading any boost. But if we wanted to change that, we just select that, then item, say we want to monitor intake air temp. Select it, hit approve, and it changes that gauge. So really interesting stuff you can monitor on the fly every single day. Now, if you wanted to change the gauge layout, you can monitor up to eight vitals at once. So we can select that from the menu and now we have eight different gauges and we can change all of them to monitor whatever we want out of the list. You can also start recording data. So if you get a new custom tune from your own tuner here, you can data log. You can send that to them via email and plug this into your laptop. You'll have access to it. So that's really useful right here on the device. So if we want to hit stop data log, it goes back to the main menu.Vehicle functions under that, read and clear DTC or diagnostic trouble codes. So check engine light comes on, plug this guy in, read the code, get the code and description, and then you can clear it. Special functions most people won't touch. Something like cam relearn you won't have to worry...most people won't have to worry about that. If we go back to exit, vehicle info will display your VIN, your ECU strategy code, and things of that nature. So whenever you're requesting a custom tune, you'll most likely need that piece of information you can access right on the device. Device info will give you software update, firmware version, how many pairs you have left, married status. You'll also get device serial number, things also needed for writing a tune, but the serial number is also located on the back of the device.Device settings, you can check for updates and you can connect to WiFi. So these kind of go hand in hand. If you want to check for updates, you're going to need to be on a WiFi network. So you can connect that here. You can also control the brightness of the device itself during the day and night. It can automatically change. You can rotate this from portrait to landscape, change the theme. There's red, blue, and then dark. Blue just switches things up. Dark changes the whites to black. Under that you have sensors, management mode, audio. It has a little beep every time you hit a button. And startup function, I think, is pretty interesting too. So if anyone wants to actually read the gauges on the fly every day, you might mount this to a windshield mount. It has these two mounts on the back here, so you can hook that on if you wanted to by the SCT windshield mount. Now, if you were driving and you want this on all the time, you can select this to start up directly into the gauges screen. Anytime you put your key in and this is plugged in, it'll go right there. So from there you can hit factory reset or hit exit back to the main menu, and you're done.Well, guys, that's going to wrap up my review, install and dyno test for the Bama X4 SF4 Power Flash Tuner from SCT with two custom tunes available for the '15 to '16 3.5-liter EcoBoost F150. If you want to pick yours up, you can do so right here at americantrucks.com.

got it set up and it makes a big difference especial with the k&n cold air intake and 4 inch exhaust the f150 feels like a 4 wheel drive mustang now

Little did I know. I unleashed a beast!
I had ordered and installed a K&N cold are intake and shortly after a Magnaflow exhaust system. Though my truck sounded amazing, the performance wasn't all there. After ordering this flash tuner and coordinating with customer service for the custom tune for my truck...this truck has awakened! Response, performance, mpg, aggressiveness...all improved greatly! Way beyond what I was expecting. Super easy to use, definite improvements, and well worth my money!!!

Truck Tuner
The customer service is good and getting tunes sent to you is easy. I don't have any upgrades done to my truck as it is stock besides a high flow filter, so I see better throttle response and my MPG is going up as well which is nice to see. I got this tuner on sale and is the best bang for your buck for tuners. Plus the free tunes for life is quite nice and really was my selling point in this purchase.

Actually very good tune.
I was going to buy the 5 Star tunes with the X4, but for only like $30 more I could buy the Bama X4 and 2 tunes, and the custom 5 Star tunes on top of that. So that's what I did. It's very comparable to the 5* performance/tow tune. The Bama 93 performance/tow tune turns a little less RPM, but a little more boost than the 5* performance/tow tune. The 5* tune is a little more aggressive on the shifts, but the Bama tune doesn't act fun like want to move with the brake held when you put it in drive or reverse. (Think Foxbody with a shift kit going from park to drive) I like it, but I may datalog with them just to see if there's any more improvement to be had. Definitely stronger than the factory tune. The problem is I keep changing between the Bama and 5* tune because I like them both, but they do about the same thing with slightly different personalities.

So far so good
Noticeable low end torque, response was fast on tunes. Added a new throttle body and waiting on second tunes. Free tunes for life for the win

Nice Tuner
Good product very easy to load tunes. You get your tunes within 2-3 days. I used the 87 octane tune with a CAI + 33" tires. Acceleration is crisper.

SCT and Bama make useable power
American Trucks and their Tuning specialists have a great thing going here. The unit was on special pricing and the 87 Perf/Tow tune makes necessary, positive changes to ECU mapping and power down to the wheels. So far, satisfied!
