Hey guys, it's Sara with americantrucks.com. And today, we have a review and install of the LED Tail Lights in Black/Smoked, fitting your '09 to '18 RAM 1500 without the factory LED tail lights. These are perfect for the RAM owner who wants a budget-friendly LED tail light, and wants a style upgrade as well with these black housings and a smoked lenses, all with a plug-and-play install. These LED tail lights provide better visibility than factory and being an LED will outlast the life of your factory halogen bulbs. They are constructed from smoked lenses with black housings and feature bright red LED running lights, brake lights, and turn signals. These tail lights reuse your factory reverse bulbs and sockets for ease of install and they're weather-sealed to keep out dust and moisture. So, as far as price goes, these tail lights come in at around $200 for the pair, making them one of the most budget-friendly options for your RAM.And for your money, you are getting this LED tail light with smoked styling and a plug-and-play install. And as far as the install goes, I'm giving this one a one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. They do feature a direct plug-and-play and bolt-up install with no wiring required and can be completed in under an hour. So, with that said, let's check out the install. For this install, we use an impact gun, but a regular hand ratchet will work just fine. You'll also need a T25 Torx socket. All right. So, the first step in our uninstall is with the tailgate dropped to grab a T25 Torx socket and remove the two bolts on the inside of the tail light. With both bolts removed from the tail light, you can grab it and pull it straight back towards you to release the clips. Now that tail light's removed, go ahead and remove both of these factory connectors. Pull back on the red tab, press down on the black tab, and pull to release. Then remove the connector on the bottom, press down on the black tab, and pull backwards to remove. Then you can remove your tail light. Now, before we can install our new tail light, we do need to transfer over this socket and this bulb and socket. So to remove these out of your factory tail light, all you have to do is twist counter-clockwise to remove. We'll also pull this bulb out and set it aside because we only need the socket. Now, we can come over to the new tail light, grab this connector, go ahead and pop it into that socket. Route your wiring in and then you'll see a few tabs around the outside. You wanna line up the tabs properly, and then twist clockwise to seat it in place. Repeat that with the bottom one. Twist to remove. I will be saving this bulb here. So just go ahead and transfer it straight into the new tail light, and twist it in place. So these new tail lights did come with plastic clips for the side here. So if you'd like to use the new ones as opposed to your factory ones, all you have to do is grab a needle-nose pliers, then pinch this in, and wiggle to remove. Same thing for the bottom one. You'll see two tabs that are sticking out. All we have to do is pinch those back in, and pull to remove. Go ahead and pop the new ones in.And next up, we can mount this ballast. I've unplugged it from the tail light. And all we need to do is go ahead and peel back on the double-sided adhesive. Next step, we can mount this ballast. Now I've disconnected it from the tail light to make mounting a little bit easier. All you have to do is peel back on the protective layer for the double-sided adhesive. Now you can adhere this to the truck within reach of this connector, but just slightly out of the way so it doesn't contact your tail light. Make sure you have a clean and dry surface to work with so this sticks nicely, line it up, and press it in place. Now again, you can stick this wherever you like, as long as it will reach with this connector. Now we'll go ahead and reconnect that ballast. Just line it up with the white connector on your tail light and plug it in. Keep going to reconnect all of your factory plugs. Make sure you hear that clicking sound to know they're properly seated. And for this top one, make sure you press the red tab down. Now, you can line up your tail light with the two connectors that we installed previously. Make sure your wiring is secured and then press it into place. Now, you can line up your factory bolts. Go ahead and thread them in. And with your T5 Torx socket, you can tighten them down. Now, keep in mind if you are using impact like we are, just be careful not to overtighten. All right. Now that we have our factory tail light uninstalled from our truck, we can check it out side by side with our new tail light here. Now, as you can see, the most obvious difference is that dark smoked lens of your new tail light. It's definitely going to be a nice change-up from the red of your factory and give your truck a nice smoked look to the back end. In addition, they also feature LEDs, which will be much brighter and last longer than the halogen factory bulbs. So with that said, go ahead and repeat all those steps to install your driver-side tail light. And now that you've installed your driver-side tail light, that is gonna do it for the review and install of these tail lights. And remember for all things RAM, keep it at americantrucks.com.

      Perfect Fit and look

I originally purchased the LED L-Bar series. The LED housing with LED lights were the exact ones I was looking for and $30 less price than the original ones.

Less than an hour to install, but you have to be careful when plugging in the connections as the wires are very delicate. A great product that I love!

      Smoked taillights

They look great and we’re super easy to install. Wish they came with the appropriate wiring harness for the install (none is included) so used the harness from my original set. But was easy to do and came out great! 10 minute job at most.

      Love these lights

Had a OEM taillight get busted and was looking for replacement OEM when I came across these. Easy to install, inexpensive and was plug and play like the description says. Gives the truck a much needed “mean look” and edge.
