2021 Chevy Silverado 3500 HD

The 2021 Chevy Silverado 3500HD is the epitome of a heavy-duty work truck. Fresh from an extensive redesign in 2020, the newest Silverado 3500HD has received a few new features and cosmetic upgrades. Under the hood remains a standard 6.6-liter gasoline V8 with 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque. Chevy’s 6.6-liter diesel V8 with 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque is optional if you need more pulling power. The gas engine has a six-speed automatic, while the diesel mill comes with a 10-speed automatic gearbox. The new Chevy Silverado 3500 can tow up to 36,000 pounds (using a gooseneck or fifth-wheel rig) when adequately equipped with the Duramax and a dually rear axle.

Maximum Volume

With such massive V8 engine options, the 2021 Chevy Silverado 3500HD has the torque to jumpstart a dying planet. However, the factory exhaust could use some tweaking. Contrary to what others say, installing a Chevy Silverado exhaust upgrade is not just about making noise. Although larger piping and free-flowing muffler assemblies will give your Chevy a louder exhaust roar, even a simple cat-back upgrade will unleash a few more horses by reducing back pressure and increasing flow capacity. Aftermarket exhaust piping is usually 3" in diameter, extending up to 4" in some cases for the Duramax-rated systems. 3" diameter offers excellent flow volume while still keeping good velocity, thus no 'lazy' exhaust wafting through and commanding more effort fomo the engine to push out the tail pipe. Coupled with a high flow muffler, 2021 Silverado 3500 cat-back kits produce deep V8 sound

Ready For Action

Heavy-duty trucks need heavy-duty recovery equipment to get the job done. When choosing a winch, it’s better to go for a higher 10,000 to 12,000-pound pulling capacity, or at least 1.5x the weight of your truck. This is because when pulling a stuck vehicle, more load will be placed on the line (dynamic load) then the actual static weight of the vehicle. This is why you see most cables, tow ropes and tow straps have two weight ratings: a max load and a working load. The working load is the range in which the strap is intended to work safely, with a pre-determined safety margin built up to the max capacity load. Most heavy-duty winches come with durable steel cable (some models replace with synthetic rope, which is lighter, more elastic but bulkier), planetary gear sets (which are the strongest variety) and electric motors with a reduction gearbox. The power rating of the electric motor will dictate how fast the winch can spool the line in, but it is reduction gearbox that is responsible for the overall weight rating. Even a small motor with an extremely high ratio reduction gear box can pull a significant amount of weight - albeit at a slower pace.

Clever Bed Storage

The 2021 Chevy Silverado 3500 is available in regular cab, crew cab, and double cab body styles. The truck has a standard 82.4-inch (6.80 foot) bed or a 98.27-inch (8.1 foot) long bed, meaning you have more than enough room to spare for a set of clever bed-mounted tool boxes and other storage solutions. Bed racks allow you to carry heavy baggage, kayaks, bicycles, snowboards, and other gear without limiting interior and box space. For this type of bed accessory, mild steel is the material of choice. Strong, readily available and inexpensive to use, the one negative aspect of a mild steel rack is the risk of rust and corrosion. Left naturally, steel rusts through exposure to the open elements. Thus, it is important all surfaces of the rack are protected with an epoxy type sealant or paint.
