2016 F-250

With only minor changes introduced for the model year (including LED warning strobe lights and and two new color options), the 2016 F-250 remains a very capable super duty truck with impressive towing and payload capacities. The F-250’s standard 6.2L gasoline V8 produces 385 horsepower and 405lb-ft of torque, while the available turbodiesel 6.7L Power Stroke V8 delivers 440 horsepower and 860lb-ft of torque. Both engines are paired with Ford’s six-speed Torqshift SelectShift automatic gearbox and have the option of rear or four-wheel drive. When properly equipped, the towing capacity of the gasoline V8 maxes out at 15,900 pounds and 16,600 pounds for the diesel, while maximum payload capacity is 4,130 pounds.

Optimise Towing & Carrying Capabilities

For enhanced towing and cargo carrying functionality, consider adding a front mount hitch to your F-250. Bolting directly to the factory mounting locations on the front end, a front mount hitch is a convenient attachment point for other front mount accessories, such as a snow plow, cargo rack, or winch. It will also help facilitate the maneuvering of a trailer into tight sports or launching a boat with greater ease. Most hitches compatible with the F-250 are manufactured from heavy-duty steel, with an industry standard 2-inch receiver tube opening and an open back for easy cleaning when needed. They can support a 5,000 pound gross trailer weight and have a 500-pound tongue weight rating. A front-mount hitch is also compatible with a tow hook or shackles.

Enhanced Bed Protection & Security

If you’re hauling cargo that you’d rather not have exposed to the elements, get yourself a bed cover. Also referred to as a tonneau cover, there are a few different cover designs but their functionality is fundamentally the same: It will keep out rain, snow, and leaves as well as help deter thieves from snatching valuable gear.

  • Soft covers: Usually on the cheaper end of the spectrum, a soft cover is typically made from heavy duty weather treated vinyl supported by a lightweight aluminium frame. They’ll come as either a roll-up or folding cover. A roll-up either leaves the full open or closed - there’s no half-way point. A folded cover on the other hand is typically made up of two or three different sections, meaning each section can be flipped up as needed, making the whole or specific parts of the bed accessible. Some soft tops will lock or can integrate with a locking tailgate, however their vinyl design means that they are less secure than a hard-top cover.
  • Hard Covers: Available as a one-piece full-length cover or a bi- or tri-fold design, hard tonneau covers offer excellent weather protection and bed security. Bi and tri-fold covers feature thin and hinged aluminum slats that allows them to fold up, providing convenient access to one section of the bed at a time. A full length cover is usually made of high impact plastic or fibreglass, and is often a from-the-factory option. To access the bed, the cover is tilted up with gas struts.
  • Hybrid Covers: A combination of their soft and hard cousins, a hybrid bed cover is similar to a soft roll up but with enhanced structural rigidity and thus better security. They also feature aluminium slats like hard covers, but these slats are thin enough to allow for the cover to roll up and be secured at the front of the bed. A retractable cover is the premium option. Using an electric motor, it automatically opens or closes the cover, which is stored in a canister at the back of the bed when not in use.
