Hey, guys. Adam here with americantrucks.com. Today we're taking a closer look at, installing and dyno testing the Superchips Flashpaq F5 Tuner available for the '09 to '10 4.6-liter F-150. You should be checking out this handheld tuner if you're looking to get a very simple out of the box preloaded or canned tuner with multiple options to tune your truck for a number of different scenarios. Before we jump into the features of the tuner itself, let's talk about some of those dyno numbers. Now keep in mind some of the options for tuning include an 87 tune, a tow-haul tune, a performance tune and a gas saver mileage tuned for highway use. For the dyno purposes, we're focusing on that 93 octane performance tune for those higher octane fuels to see what the most we can get out of this truck as far as performance goes. So let's head over to the dyno graph. All right, guys. Now, of course, we strap down our 2010 to 4.6 F-150 to the dyno, ran it with 93 octane in the tank, 35-inch tires, mind you in third gear, and we walked away with 227 horsepower and 243-pound-feet of torque at the rear wheels for our baseline. We then of course uploaded our 93 tune on our Flashpaq, modifying the tire parameter to 35, ran it again under the exact same conditions with 93 in the tank, walked away with 232 horsepower and 251-pound-feet of torque at the rear wheels. Good for pick gains of about five horsepower and eight torque at the rear wheels. Now those numbers alone are all right but we want to look at the curve gains because that's where the real numbers come into play and that's actually really what's gonna make a difference on the road. Now our horsepower curve, we're looking at about 3,500 RPM, seeing good gains of about 13 horsepower. Now for the torque curve, we're looking at about 3000 RPMs for our biggest gain of 31-pound-feet of torque at the rear wheels over stock which is a really impressive gain for just a very simple canned tune on 93 octane with not a whole lot thrown into the mix. We have no mods, bone stock otherwise, so what away with just 93 in the tank with that tune, 31 torque at that sweet spot at the low end is something you're definitely gonna feel on the road. Now as you saw, pretty good gains especially under the curve there as far as torque is concerned at the low end. So overall, with just a simple tune, this can really do some good work. Now in addition to just tuning and giving you a horsepower and torque, it's also gonna modify a couple of other parameters. Now it's gonna adjust your shift points and transmission firmness, so the shift firmness is gonna be modified to give you a sportier feel especially in performance mode. You're also gonna be eliminating excessive downshifts upon climbing hills which can start bogging you down a little bit when you're starting to climb those hills, so that can be a benefit as well. But you're also gonna feel a lot of benefits, especially in tow-haul mode. Now if you find yourself towing trailers, maybe your boat, maybe you got some large cargo in the back of the bed, adding a ton of weight, this will also adjust a lot of tow-haul mode parameters to make it easier on your truck and it's not gonna feel as sluggish and as held back. In addition to that, some of the other features include a DTC reader so you can read and clear diagnostic trouble codes. Anytime that check engine light comes on, you can read it, see what's going on and clear it. You're also gonna be able to track live engine vitals with the gauges and data log screen. You take a look at intake air temp, speedometer, rev limiter, so on and so forth and really track intake temps, coolant temps and a lot of other options out there. You can track up to eight options at once with this plugged in at all times. So if you grab the windshield mount, something for your smartphone, you can mount this there as well. It's got a pretty easy to use interface, it's also got a really easy to update system. If you plug it into your laptop, you can easily use the software that you can download from the Superchips website. Overall, very simple device for guys who just want to have a couple of options for different scenarios. If you're hitting the highway, use that mileage saver tune to really cut back on fuel consumption, make it a little bit more eco-friendly so you can save some dollars at the pump. Anytime you're looking for a quick daily driver tune 87 is a good way to go. If you want to feel a little bit sportier performance is great. And of course, if you're towing, use a tow hook tune. Now as far as price is concerned, 350 bucks gets you what you see here, or around 350 bucks. Install, I'm gonna give one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter. Anybody can tackle this in the driveway at home with about 20, maybe 30 minutes from start to finish. You want to make sure you're checking for updates on this before you gets started on your laptop. Plug it in using the USB cord included in the kit, you can update that right on your laptop. Now I want to show you guys exactly how to tune your truck focusing on that performance soon and I'm gonna walk you through some of those features. Let's get started. Before we move anywhere else, we want to focus on tuning our vehicle, so let's like okay on tune, turn the ignition on but don't start the engine and press okay. From here it'll communicate with the vehicle. You can select your tune. Now there's performance, heavy tow, 87 octane and mileage gas saver which is really for the guys taking long road trips, 87 is gonna be a really mild tune increasing some of those parameters but keeping it really daily driver-friendly. Heavy tow, pretty obvious, if you're towing something or hauling heavy cargo, that's gonna be the way to go. We're gonna focus on that performance for 93 octane. We're gonna hit okay and confirm. Do you want to customize? Let's select okay and take a look. Now, of course, rev limiter and speed limiter are options, tire size, wide open throttle, shift press, and then press continue to move forward. We're gonna change our tire size. We do have 35s on, so we're gonna increase this to 35. Press okay and move down and press continue. Press okay to program that file. Ignition off, press okay. Really just following those directions. And back on. At this point, it'll jump into writing the file. It'll have one of two for first 100 and then two of two obviously for the second 100. So let it do its thing, don't unplug the device, don't turn the vehicle off unless it directs you to and we'll come back at the end there. All right. Again, ignition off and okay when completed. On. All right, now moves into two of two, it's gonna do the same thing. All right, so it cleared the DTCs, press okay to continue. Tuned file installed. Okay, to continue again. Right back to the main menu and you're good to go. All right now as for the other features of your Superchips there's really only a couple of things at the main menu here but in the tuning section, of course you can swap through any of the tunes at any time, performance, 87, tow and the gas mileage saver for highway use. You don't have to revert back to stock before jumping into another tune, you can do all of that straight there. Hop from one tune to the next, making it very easy. You can also revert it back to stock in that menu as well. Aside from tuning, if you hit right, you'll see scan. Now scan you select this to go into read your DTC codes. So otherwise your check engine light comes on, you're not sure what's going on. You don't need a different device to read that. You can plug this guy in, read that code, get a description and you can clear it all from this menu. So if we wanted to go into there, you can see read and clear DTCs. You also have gauges in data logging. Select this guy with the ignition on you'll be able to track live engine vitals on the fly at any time which is pretty helpful for guys who want to, you know, monitor that. It can be a bit of an insight into performance of your vehicle, you can select up to eight at the same time. So we're gonna hit continue. So once you select what you want to track, you can press start down at the bottom and okay to continue and it gives you a somewhat small gauge in order to track whatever vital that you selected. So we selected intake air temperature, that's what you're reading here. You can go back, you can track even something as simple as speed if you really want it to. There's a couple of different options there as well. Scroll all the way to the bottom, press start and it loads that up. Obviously, the vehicle is off, we're not tracking the speed. But it's really interesting for the guys who want to track, you know, several things at once, you can start selecting multiple ones as well to track them all at the same time and up to eight of those you can track. Under that, you can track battery voltage, pretty simple as well. Whenever you're loading a tune, whenever you're swapping tunes, it's always a good idea to have your battery voltage up. So if you're low on voltage, have something under 12 volts, you want to hook it up to a charger just be safe. From there, you can go to info. Info will give you vehicle info such as your VIN number, strategy code for your ECU. As device info gives you something like software info, serial number, firmware version, things like that. So just a couple of things you can track at the main menu, tune, scan, and info. Very simple, very straightforward and easy to use but overall that's your Superchips. Well, guys, that's gonna wrap up my review and install as well as dyno test for the Superchips Flashpaq F5 Tuner for '09 to '10 4.6-liter F-150s. You can get yours right here at americantrucks.com.

Very nice little tuner
My goal in tuning my truck was to get better gas mileage and to have a little more torque when you punch it. Mission accomplished! I am getting 4 more miles a gallon on the highway when cruising and the truck is overall more responsive. I would definitely recommend getting a high flow drop in air filter as well with this tune to maximize your gains. Very well designed product for a very fair price.

good canned tunes
I've used a flashpaq on every vehicle I've had for years. F150s, Mustangs and Rams. Always been happy with the modest gains and better shifts of the 87 octane tunes and Superchips values.

Very simple
Got this to test the performance tune and the mileage saver. You can definitely tell the difference when using either one. The performance tune and haul tune both require 91 octane and up for fuel as an fyi

Great addition
This programmer is a great addition to my F150 eco boost. The 87 octane program and fuel economy maximizer work great. The tow program has changed the game for towing my 28’ travel trailer. This is a must have.

Really made a diffrenece
Not sure if added HP think just the remap and shift points really made a difference on the way it accelerates now was worth the purchase

Improved the drivability of truck!
I've had my '14 5.0 since new. Stock form up until recently when I decided to turn it into a light duty overland build. I bought the tuner, mainly so I can adjust the speedo for 35" and the diagnostics abilities. I loaded up the 87 Performance tune was surprised the increase of drivability of the truck. Throttle response is so much better (in fact, I added a JET Throttle body after the flashtune, and the JET didn't really add anything to the truck) and there is no longer that lag the stock fueling had. I was not looking for any significant performance gain, but the overall increase of drivability of the truck, ability to adjust for tire sizes, diagnostics, turning TPMS on or off, etc....all worth the cost to me. I would buy this again. I just wish the flashing process was little faster.

Great addition
Decided to pull the trigger on this programmer. AT had a great black friday sale. I use the 87 octane tune for my 2014 F150 5.0. Truck has a 6" lift and 35 x 20 tires. Improved my fuel economy by 2.5 mpg.
