As far as dampers go, the SkyJacker Nitro 8000 Rear Shock Absorber for 1 to 5-Inch Lift is the way to go. This rear shock combines nitrogen-charged twin-tube design with multi-stage velocity-sensitive valving technology. These factors work together to deliver a faster damping response and more accurate handling feel when going off-road. On the highway, these shocks provide smooth handling with the same level of handling accuracy for maximum control. What’s more, this shock is equipped with high-quality polyurethane bushings for superior vibration damping to further improve ride quality.
Brawny Build Quality. This rear shock absorber features a shock body made from high-quality alloy, offering superior strength as well as excellent heat dissipation. The alloy is then machined to exact measurements for a precise fit when installed. The piston rod for its part measures 14mm in diameter and is made from brawny chrome-hardened steel, making it tough enough to take stresses of regular off-roading. This shock absorber also includes a red polyurethane dust boot to protect the piston rod and seal from debris when going off-road. Finally, this assembly is finished in a white powder coat finish for exceptional corrosion protection and eye-catching style.
Trouble-Free Install Procedure. Installing this rear shock absorber is a relatively trouble-free process that won’t require modifications to your truck. Moreover, this rear shock installs in factory locations using just standard hand tools.

Skyjacker the way to go
I have now put these on two trucks that both had 4 wheel drive. Fairly easy install. Money vs quality can not be beat. Quick free delivery. Off road is great but more noticeable ride is my every day travel on the interstate. Buying another used 2000 Ford that I know needs shocks and will be using them a 3rd time

Stay away
Terrible design Never seen a shock where the shaft comes out of the bottom and boot also installed on the bottom, where it is exposed to everything you drive over, leaving it in a bad position to get hit by something, or the boot getting busted

Black Max, must have for larger tires
Love the look, very impressed with the smooth ride. Was getting some back end tire bounce on some of the roads by my house, completely gone with the new shocks. Haven't taken it off road yet but if parking lot speed bumps are any test I'm sure they will do great.
