Jake: Jake here for AmericanTrucks, and today I'm taking a look at the Roush Cold Air Intake fitting 2021 and newer PowerBoost F-150s. Now, the PowerBoost F-150 is definitely no slouch, but if you want to give your truck just a bit more get up and go or even just get a bit more sound out of it, then Roush has your answer. This is an easy bolt-on modification that's going to provide your truck with more power, quicker response, and more sound for a reasonable price, and it doesn't require any tuning or calibration. Now, adding performance parts to a hybrid might seem a bit odd, but the PowerBoost F-150 can still benefit from some extra get up and go. It's only going make it quicker and more responsive than it already is. And who better to help you maximize your truck's performance than Roush? They only do Ford so you can bet that they will be able to help you make the most out of your truck. Now, this is a closed box, cold air intake that is designed to increase airflow by reducing the restriction caused from your stock airbox. In fact, Roush claims this offers up to 25% less restriction versus your stock intake. And while it does pull air from the inlet at the front of the grille like your stock air box, this new one is bigger and it features larger inlets and a larger diameter intake tube. It's going to allow that extra air to go right in through your turbos into the engine. Now, the box is CAD-designed to optimize ceiling and airflow and it features a window at the top here for a cool look under the hood and the ability to check the condition of the air filter without needing to disassemble anything. Now, speaking of that filter, this one is much larger than your stock one. Now, when filled, this high flow, high capacity and washable, so it's going to allow much more airflow, trap more dirt, and therefore add some additional response to your engine. This is also a dry filter, meaning that you won't have to mess around with re-oiling it and making replacement costs lower. However, it is also washable so if you clean it out pretty regularly, it's going last you quite some time. Now, beyond the filter and the airbox, you also get new inlet tubes to keep that airflow moving through the turbos and into the engine itself. And turbos do love some extra airflow. Now, since this is opening up your stock intake, you're going to get a nice little growl when you get on it too. Intakes are great for increasing sound, since they're relatively quiet when you're just cruising around at low speeds. But when you really nail it, you get an awesome growl. So, you're going to get to hear some of that turbo spool, maybe even some of that blow off valve noise. One more thing that is worth noting here, is that this intake does not require you to tune your truck. While we do recommend a tune for intakes to maximize power gains, you can certainly enjoy this mod on your own truck without the need for a tune.Construction, as you might expect from a Roush product, is pretty good. The filter is a dry multilayer medial with deep pleats and inner and outer mesh to help catch as much dirt and debris as possible. The airbox and intake tubes are made from injection molded plastic, which is lightweight and makes for excellent fitment and it helps keep out that engine may heat. You also get EPDM couplers. They're going to help with proper fitment and it's going to help account for any movement in the engine, keep everything sealed up nice and tight. You've even got this little accordion one here too.As far as pricing goes, this one's going to run you about $500, putting it in about the middle of the pack, when it comes to intakes for these PowerBoost trucks. For what you're getting, I do think this is a pretty good value. You save a bit versus some of the other options. You still get that Roush-backed research and development, solid construction, and a cool sound to go along with your added response and power.Installation gets a one out of three on our difficulty meter and should only take you about an hour to get this completed. Now, swapping intakes is a fun and easy job you can certainly do yourself at home. Tools used in this install include a clip removal tool, flathead screwdriver, small pry bar, a ratchet, a half-inch socket, 7-millimeter and 8-millimeter sockets, a Torx T30 bit with a screw gun or a multi-bit screwdriver. And to show you just what's involved, let's throw it over to one of our AT customers.AT customer: So, first thing you got to do is take this pry tool and pop these caps off. Try not to do it as hard as I just did because I just think, I broke that one. I did, yeah, it's loose and we got to loosen this bolt over here, pop these clips off, undo these, loosen, seems to get this off. Pulls up. Here's forward, loosens that, so you can get this up and off. There's also one down here. You got two bolts at the bottom. Cut the wires off over here, they're easier said than done. Same as those clips up front that are kind of just wedged in there like a little Christmas tree.Once you get that off, you can just lift this out. All right, now that we have the box out, we got to get this tube off. There's two hoses down here that I'm thinking I might be able to keep attached because that part doesn't come out. So, you have to loosen this bracket and there's one back here goes down underneath. Once I loosen this, I'm going to see if I can get this off without taking off the oxygen sensor because I can't really get to it where it sits. So, if I can break this off, there's also a clip on the back of here that holds the...like a little clamp that holds that tube, the tube that goes to the reservoir.I just disconnected that, got that disconnected. We've got to go disconnected from this bottom piece, that's off and just make sure you get off this oxygen sensor, which I hope it will not be. Push in right there, by this little clip in the front. It's got the tape around it so you can't tell the push in and it pulls right off. Now, your oxygen sensor's in here, I don't know if you got to switch it on the other one but we'll find out in a minute, and I did not have to remove these two wires from the bottom piece and I'll get my parts. Also, the snorkel from the original part is going to be reused so, we have to get that off also. To get this one off, I just switched to an 8-millimeter, take out this one bolt, slide it out and now this part right here can be reused but it has to be reused on the Roush part. So, the mass air sensor, I could have probably left that wire connected and made this easier, to make it easier to turn, but since I already took it off, just use this, turn it a little and pry it out and reconnect it to the other piece.Like I said, I probably could have just left it connected instead of taking it apart and you just push it back into the other piece, push it back in and it makes it easier to twist because you have the whole rest of this instead of that little knob to hold onto. All right, now we're going to start putting everything back together. One thing you do have to put back on is, once I find the rest of it is, sensor over there. You're going to have to reuse this piece that held it onto the side wall. Pull this metal piece off and make it a little easier to get this rubber grommet off, put it back together, take the bolt that was holding it, put it all back together and screw it back into the side wall, to the fender. Hold the new one in place. You want to get it kind of snug up against the wall. You don't want to get it too tight, where it's clamping down so you get the other air box put back on there and then you can tighten it all the way. Now, I'll go get the other pieces. Okay, so I realize with the new box you are not able to access this nut, so you do tighten it down all the way. It has the bolt going to the bottom which basically so you can't make it too tight, I guess. Then you just snug it up and the other piece will just slide right into the top of that. You are also going to have to reconnect with the old screw that you took out from the original snorkel and reconnect it to the new air box by just putting it back together. It has a hole already there. With the screw that you already have, a little hard to get started, snug it up in there. Still going to have a little play. Almost goes in. Yeah, these two nubs, just like the original one, they go into the original holes. This bracket that came with it, I think it's for older models because you have these there and there's nowhere to drill this to anyway. So, the way it came out is exactly the way I'm putting it back in, which is those two nubs that you can see through. Actually, you make sure they're lined up. Make sure you have this back piece over that you just stuck on there. Push it in the place that snaps back in, and this is held to the backside so it's in the place. Put this back where it belongs, right back up here and I'm just going to put these back in, and hope that I don't have to take them out again. And then just snap back in. I have to find a new one since I broke this one. Those snap back in. All right, that's back in place. These bolts are going to hold the filter back in there, 10-millimeter bolt. In my opinion, it's easier if you just put the fuse and the filter on now. Just easier to get it in at least the first time and when you put it in, it only goes one way. The oxygen sensor or the airflow sensor's going to be facing you. Make sure that you put this on before you start or you'll be taking it back off to do it.You want to make sure you keep the nut turning at the top. So, if you have to change out your filter to clean it, it's easy to get off and you don't have to fight with it to try and get to the bottom of this, which you're not going to really be able to do without taking off those two bolts that we're going to put on and taking the whole thing back off again. It doesn't have to be that tight, just pretty snug. Then I'm going to switch back my 10-millimeter and the two bolts that came with it.Like I said, oxygen sensor comes to the front, slide it in, then put your two bolts. Then you're going to hold it in place. It's tight. Next thing you're going to do is put on your UC. It says, "Made in the USA." That part's going to go up towards the top. Connect here, connect to the bottom piece and then your bigger piece is going to go there and connect, and that's what all of these rings are for.All right. Now, we're going to put all the hoses back together. Like I said, "Made in USA" goes on top. The smaller side goes on here, the bigger side goes there, put it on. You're going to make sure you put these rings on because if you put all together and you don't have the rings, then you have to take it right back off to get the rings on.Make sure it's all the way on. You want to make sure all of your bolts are sticking up, that way you don't have to, again, fight to get it down there. I'm just going to put both of these on. This is for the bottom hose, it goes down here. Also gets the other big one. I'll slide up one. Make sure you got both of these on there. And the last part is going to go to the top. Make sure again, they're both facing upwards so you don't have to fight with it and you're doing it, it's just one.All right, I'm going to tighten these down just so don't wind around the whole time I'm doing this. Hopefully, I don't take it back off and it's going to be 8-millimeter, at least for these big ones. You go down where you know it's going to be standing up where you can get to it. You have to tighten it all the way but at least just so it stop spinning around. And [inaudible 00:15:20]. Much better. Don't have to make it too tight, just enough to get it in there. I'm going to make sure I work them on there.Let's start with the bottom one just because it's probably going to be the hardest to get to. You make sure that it's completely seated. Bottom part is not on yet. There you go. Clipped in. It's easiest if you start with this at the bottom. It doesn't be such a fight to get it on there. There you go. Snugged up. Snugged up. That's all on. O2 sensor, you can either have it coming across the top, you're going to the bottom. I think I'm going to go over the top but I don't have to worry about it, dangling down inside there. Go push it in. Guess we only go one way and that's in there. Turn it, it's locked and that's in.Now, we just got to get the top, put it on and we will be finished. All right, last steps. I cleaned here with alcohol so that when this is on I can see through the window, you can see the sticker, in case you need anything parts-wise, parts related, it's in there and it's protected. It won't get damaged. So, I just put it where I'd be able to see it through the window. This is right above. All right. I also cleaned this with alcohol, so I can put this Roush sticker on here. It's being difficult. That's the paper, line it up there. Be careful it doesn't pull up. I could just try and fill. All right, put the cover on. And these screws are going to go on with a Torx30. [inaudible 00:18:19]. All right, all finished.Jake: That's going to do it for our review and install of the Roush Cold Air Intake fitting 2021 and newer PowerBoost F-150s. Description

The Most Highly Engineered Kit on the Market. The Roush Cold Air Intake Kit provides better air intake than your F-150 PowerBoost’s factory airbox. Two of its most important features are a reduced pressure drop and an unrestricted potential for power and fuel efficiency. This kit allows for much better engine performance, despite the fact that it does not require calibration.

High-Quality Construction. The Roush Cold Air Intake Kit features larger inlet and air box sizes, as well as an aggressive performance sound and additional induction noise. It was designed to keep heat out and facilitate maximum performance. Made of an inner and outer layer of wire mesh, the high-capacity dry filter retains its shape and is easily washable. The kit uses EPDM rubber couplers for an optimum fit; this will not void your warranty.

Quick and Hassle-Free Installation. The Roush Cold Air Intake Kit was built to fit factory mounting locations, allowing for a smooth and fast installation. This system does not require any tuning post-installation, nor does it need any cutting or welding.

Includes Limited Parts Warranty. The Roush Cold Air Intake Kit is backed by the manufacturer’s 90-day limited parts warranty. For more information, you may contact them directly.

Application. The Roush Cold Air Intake Kit works with 2021-2025 3.5L PowerBoost F-150 models.

      Cold air intake

Fit & quality are good but after running this on my 2023 F150 3.5 v6 hybrid for several months I will be changing it back to a K&N. At least with K&N i have a little deeper sound & it feels like a small power increase, nothing like that with the Roush.

Great upgrade but could be better

This is a great upgrade from factory, sappy throttle and you can hear the turbos now, but it has a few short falls. First the bottom of the air box has a few "extra" holes. If you don't plan on off roading and water crossing no big deal but it would be an entry point. Second in my opinion is the air filter.... crap...Changed to a K&N RF-1041 with an RF-1041DL dry charger pre-filter....perfect fit!!!

      Great Upgrade

Easy install once the correct part was received. Initially received the pictured item, which is not correct for the 3.5 PowerBoost. It is missing the tube that connects to the turbo. Customer Service was quick to correct. Love the quality and fitment.

      Happy Motor

Love the install of this intake. The turbo spool sound is not as loud as other units I have installed on my previous F150's, but the low end torque is more present and the turbo blow-off valve is louder. The install directions were not great, but you can figure it out.

      Very happy with it

I honestly just laid everything out and it was all pretty self explanatory. I removed the old one pretty quick and put it the new one just as fast. Only thrown for a loop by the added wiring harness. I used the QR code and read the instructions. Found out it’s for the older models. I left the metal bracket off too.
