How to Install Fender Flares

A pair of fender flares is a great way to revamp your ride’s sense of style. Perhaps more practically, these rugged components will protect your exterior when you’re out rock-crawling. They also allow for the application of larger wheels. But you can’t just select any old pair — they’re not exactly a dime-a-dozen, after all, so take your time. But once you’ve made your selection, how do you go about installing it?

Bushwacker Fender Flares Installation Steps

Luckily, installation is pretty simple and should only take about 10 to 15 minutes per fender. Just follow these steps and you’ll be ready to rock in no time.

  1. Unbolt your existing fender flares and remove them from the vehicle. Typically, factory fender flares are held on by bolts mounted from the backside that can be accessed by reaching behind the fender.
  2. Lay your new fender flare against the body of your vehicle to make sure it fits correctly. The front edge should line up with the bumper, and the bottom edge should line up with the bottom of the fender.
  3. If your vehicle didn’t come with flares, you’ll need to drill holes into the body. Follow the template that comes with your kit.
  4. Install the double-sided foam tape on the backside of the fender flare. Wait until you’re ready to install before peeling off the second side of the tape. Next, align the holes on the fender flare with the holes in the vehicle body, and apply.
  5. Bolt the flare to the body. Repeat the process for each fender.
