How to Install Brake Pads

Whether you’re racing around the track or speeding down the highway, you don’t want to leave your ride’s stopping abilities to chance. If you’re not getting the response you want from your brakes or if your brake pads are producing an embarrassing squeal every time you tap the pedal, it’s about time you find high-quality replacements.

For real rotor-biting performance, set your ride up with high-quality brakes and brake pads that deliver the strength to stop on a dime every time. When choosing new brake pads, turn to the top-rated brands in the industry, like Hawk Brake Pads or Posi Quiet Brake Pads. Whatever your vehicle and your specific braking needs may be, you’ll want to choose brake pads that can keep up with your ride.

EBC Red Stuff Brake Pads are ideal for muscle cars, sports cars, or performance European autos, while StopTech pads are designed for spirited street and light track use. If you’re playing “king of the road” in a full-size truck or SUV, you need brake pads that are as tough as your rig. Or, if you’re looking to drastically reduce brake dust, check out Hawk Performance Ceramic Brake Pads.

Brake Pads Installation

Once you’ve purchased your new brake pads from AmericanTrucks, here are the steps to install them on your ride:

  1. Jack up your vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  2. Remove the wheel of the brake assembly you're working on using a lug wrench.
  3. Locate and remove the brake caliper bolts using an open-ended wrench or an Allen wrench.
  4. Slide the brake caliper assembly off the rotor and support it to prevent strain on the brake line.
  5. Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket.
  6. If the brake piston is extended, use a C-clamp or a brake piston tool to compress it back into the caliper housing.
  7. Slide the new brake pads into the caliper bracket.
  8. Place the brake caliper assembly back over the new brake pads and secure it with the caliper bolts.
  9. Put the wheel back on and tighten the lug nuts.
  10. Lower your vehicle off the jack stands and onto the ground.

Your ride will now be ready to go—or should I say, stop?
