A crate engine is a fully assembled engine ready to install upon arrival to the customer or technician. Crate engines are built by a wide variety of manufacturers and sent to their final destination via a shipping crate—hence the name “crate” engine. It’s not uncommon for these drop-in engines to need small bits and pieces before they’re fully functional. Typically, only bolt-on accessories like exhaust systems, water pumps, and other minor pieces are needed to get the engine up and running.

The F150 is as varied as it is reliable and upgrading the engine to handle bigger jobs is a common line of thinking. Adding things such as oil separators and cold air intakes keep your engine cleaner, adding longevity. There are also cosmetic options if you're looking to spruce up your show truck.
