2014 Ram 3500

2014 Ram 3500 saw few major changes over the 2013 model. It continues to be the strongest of the strong, with the Cummins 6.7L turbo-diesel being the most powerful engine choice available. A High Output (HO) package is offered, producing 385 HP/850 TQ, routed through a 6-speed automatic Aisin transmission and an upgraded 11.8-inch rear differential. The 5.7L Hemi has been dropped entirely and the only gas model engine is a 6.4L Hemi V8, producing 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque. RAM focused intensely on the interior of the 2014 3500 truck, as it is a new design that is the most luxurious to date. Taking this all into account, a 2014 Ram 3500 is now fast approaching being a decade old. Wear and tear are a part of truck ownership, why not improve and upgrade your Ram instead of putting on the same old factory pieces? Here are a few suggestions to get you started.

More Power, More Fun

Already starting with near 400 horsepower levels, both the gas 6.4L Hemi V8 and the 6.7L Cummins turbo diesel engines are quite responsive to an aftermarket engine tuner. These devices plug into the OBD2 port (found beneath the dash on the driver's side, directly above from the pedals) and connect to the factory ECU. Most aftermarket tuners come pre-loaded with a few different tune options such as a performance mode, towing mode and fuel-savings mode. Depending on which option you select, the device will then upload the new parameters to the ECU and within a couple of minutes totally revamp how the engine responds. Better yet, many of these tuning devices now come with tunes that are slightly customized to the specs of your 3500 Ram. When ordering, you may have to fill out a form (or sometimes upon receiving the device) in which you give further details about any modifications made to the pickup, which are then taken into account when optimizing the program for the Ram 3500. These customized devices are a little bit more expensive, but their more refined parameters will outperform a one-size-fits-all type of tuner.

Blacked out Box

Updating the look of your 2014 Ram 3500 is made quite easy, as there are so many plug-and-play parts available. Take for instance the rear tail lights. Depending on the trim level, some Ram 3500 trucks were equipped from the factory with LED tail lights. Regardless of having factory incandescent or LED tail lamps, aftermarket variety tail lamps are usually all LED and will plug right in. The individual diodes allows for unique illumination patterns which adds a little bit of spice to the rear of the truck. Further, for those that want a more menacing look for their truck, LED tail lights are often available with a smoked or blacked out lens. These darker hues smoothly blend the housings with the sheet metal of the truck, yet due to the high intensity of the light diodes now being used, traffic behind will easily see you brake or signal to turn.

Easy Curb Appeal

Fender flares are a pickup truck must-have, and a 2014 Ram 3500 will certainly benefit from a quality set. First off, a quality set of fender flares will add a strong, aggressive presence to each fender well. Made from high-strength plastic, Ram 3500 fender flares usually ship in mat black and come in one of two styles: smooth or textured. For those 2014 Ram 3500 owners that want more of an off-road look, pick a set that feature recessed rivet heads that span the contour of the flare. Now, fender flares aren't all about looks, either. They serve as an excellent way to protect the body from road debris thrown up by the wheels. Further, if you want to rock a seriously large wheel and tire package, it is more than likely you'll need a deep fender flare set in order to keep the edge of the tire from protruding out without anything to cover it.
