A larger and higher flowing intake helps improve turbocharger efficiency, resulting in significant horsepower and torque gains on the 6.7 Cummins. The factory intake system becomes restrictive at higher power levels and leaves a lot on the table with respect to performance. While stock engines won't receive the same level of power gains as tuned ones the benefits of upgrading the intake are still huge. The increased airflow will help with turbo spool and throttle response while reducing the amount of stress placed on the turbo. The efficiency improvements also lead to gas mileage increases by about 1-2mpg. On tuned 6.7 Cummins an upgraded intake is even more important to help supply the turbo with the additional airflow it needs to support higher than stock boost levels.

Overall, a cold air intake is one of the best performance modifications for the 6.7 Cummins, especially when used alongside a tuner or custom tuning.
