One of the main reasons leveling kits are preferred over full lift kits, particularly suspension lifts, is for appearances. The best F150 leveling kit eliminates the factory rake, giving your truck an even look. For most the factory rake is less than desirable, and a leveling kit does away with that as well as allowing for more tire room. Leveling kits are also easier to install than suspension lifts. Comprised of a set of spacers, the process is much like replacing a spring. Something to note with leveling kits is they’ll generally provide a different lift on the front than the rear. After all, if they provided an even lift across the board, your truck wouldn’t be level.
The main past time of the F150 aside from being the tool shed on the job site is towing. Attaching a trailer to the back of your F150 acts as a pseudo leveling kit. Pairing a living kit and a trailer would lift the front end of your truck, reducing traction and most importantly braking. If you plan on towing with your F150 at all, a leveling kit is something you’ll want to avoid. On the flip side, if you’re looking to give your commuter truck an MPG boost while fitting beefier tires, a leveling kit will make you slipstream a little better down the highway.
