Hey, guys. Adam here with americantrucks.com and today we're taking a quick look at and, of course, installing the NOVA-Series LED Projector Headlights available in jet black for the '09 to '14 F-150. You should be checking these out if you're looking for one of the most unique headlights I personally have ever seen on this generation F-150.Now as you know, the factory lights that came on the '09 to '14s are pretty outdated at this point. They don't include any DRL or daytime running light. They don't have LEDs. They still use the factory incandescent bulbs so if you're looking for a big upgrade, this is definitely a good way to go. Now I will say these NOVA-series headlights are a little bit on the premium side of the spectrum. They're a little bit more expensive than most aftermarket lights, but for a good reason in my opinion. Now, first and foremost, they are jet blacks. The inside here is a nice jet black material. The outside uses a clear polycarbonate lens, so they're not smoked, but they give you the impression of a smoked lens because of that jet black interior and it's all OEM quality materials. Now the design, totally different as you can see. It's got the daytime running light which is a 6K color temperature, pure white light that's gonna wrap around this outside here with three stripes on the bottom there. Now that's almost reminiscent of the Mustang and we'll take a closer look at that comparing it to the factory lights in just a little bit. Those will come on as your daytime running lights. So anytime your parking lights come on, anytime you open your door, those will illuminate. They're also gonna illuminate what that parking light on the side here in amber. Now those lights also do a little bit of a dance when you turn on the parking lights. They have a little bit of a sequence that goes around the DRL there. But the nice thing about the bottom stripes, the accent lights you see here, not only are they daytime running lights, but they're also your turn signals that will change to a really vibrant amber and they're also gonna dance in sequence. So when you turn your turn signals on, they'll blink from the inside out one, two, three, one, two, three. That'll work with your turn signals and your hazard lights. So that's really unique. That's first and foremost, something you don't see on many aftermarket headlights in the category, let alone something that's gonna blink in sequence. Now, for the middle here. Obviously, this looks very different, almost alien-like. There are four individual projectors. Now the top two guys are gonna be your low beams. And when you flick the high beams on, all four will eliminate super bright. Now, even the low beams are significantly brighter than your factory headlights. Factory headlights aren't really that bright to begin with so it's gonna be an upgrade nonetheless, but they are some of the brightest headlights I personally have ever seen on the F-150.Now, this guy does carry a little bit of a steeper price tag. Like I said, it's on the more premium side of the spectrum, but with all of the gadgets and gizmos that this comes with, all the bells and whistles, I think it wraps up to a nice little package. It's gonna come in right around 950 bucks for the pair and it is a direct plug and play. So not only are you getting some of these extra features, the sequentials, the daytime running lights, the nice little dance it does when you turn your key fob on or turn the parking lights on or open your doors, all of that's gonna wrap up into 950 bucks. The plug and play is nice because sometimes LEDs and specifically headlights that have daytime running light accents need to be spliced into your factory harness so it requires cutting and stripping the wires and so on. Not gonna be the case here, you're just pulling the factory bulbs out and you're gonna plug in the plug and play sockets. Now the install for that is gonna get one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter. Anybody can tackle it in the driveway at home with about 30 minutes, maybe an hour from start to finish depending on your personal experience. Really all you need is an impact gun and a 10-millimeter socket and you can get the job done yourself.A couple of additional wiring harnesses, including a plug and play adapter is included in the kit for other wiring harnesses that you may have on your vehicle from the factory depending on your generation and your year range setup. So ours is just gonna plug and play right out of the box but if you need to, there are additional ones included in the kit. With that said, I'm gonna show you every step of the process here. What do say we get started? All right. Tools using the install include an impact gun or a ratchet and a 10-millimeter socket. All right, first steps here we're gonna remove our passenger side headlight, and to do that, you're gonna need a 10-millimeter socket to remove the top two bolts here, and then there's one on the side. So pop the hood, and you'll gain access to all three, so let's get them off.All right. Next step, we're just gonna pull straight back on the headlight. We're gonna flip it over just like this. Now because we're gonna be reusing the bulbs, now you could just pinch and disconnect each one of the bulbs and leave the bulbs themselves inside of the headlight. But because we're just gonna transfer them over, it might just be easier to just twist and pull the whole bulb out of the sockets themselves so that they're still attached to the wiring harness. And that's gonna allow us to just twist them right back into our new headlight housing when we transfer them over.So from here, what we're going to do is just gently put this down so the bulbs don't get damaged and we can set the factory headlight aside. So we've got our factory headlight off the passenger side of our '13 F-150 behind me and it's next to our NOVA LED option here and I want to go through some similarities and differences between the two kits and I got to say, head-to-toe, it is pretty different with the exception of the construction. This is gonna be made from all OEM quality materials and it has the OEM quality fit and finish. Inside, however, completely different technology and design. You get a way more modern look, obviously. You're getting the four individual projector bulbs there, which look nothing like any of the other headlights I have personally seen for an F-150 let alone every other vehicle. Now, this guy here is gonna use the top two for your low beams and all four for your high beams. The rest of the system here is gonna use a pure 6K white color temperature for their DRLs or the daytime running lights. And as you can see that wraps around the sides and has the three stripes on the bottom, in my opinion, reminiscent of somewhat of a Mustang styling, especially the newer 2018 Mustangs. Now this guy is gonna be very traditional, very chrome plated on the inside or reflective. And after so many years of the F-150 of this generation being on the road, it can oxidize yellow, get really dull. It might even be damaged after a while. So instead of replacing it with a factory replacement, you might be looking for the modern LED technology. So the pure white DRLs are gonna be really attractive. It's gonna light up, when you hit the key fob to unlock the vehicle. It's just gonna give you that daytime running light look that a lot of the newer vehicles have nowadays. Within that is gonna also be a longer lasting lifetime. Now, the inside of the housing there is a black housing with a clear polycarbonate lens. The black housing and clear lens gives you the impression of a smoked lens without hindering any of the lighting output. But even still, even if it was smoked, the lights are gonna be so much brighter than factory that they really wouldn't be a problem. So this is great for the guys looking for a nice stealthy front end without the smoked lens. Now we do have to transfer over a couple of our factory bulbs. The headlights, the high beams, and low beams are gonna use the factory ones, but we're gonna have to move over our factory, amber, and parking lights. So what do you say we do that now on the table, swap them on over and we'll head back under the hood. All right. So here, what we're going to do is just twist out the brown connector. Set that down. Twist out the other small connector, and then we're gonna pop our bulbs out for both of these. Let's set these aside and install these. So now we can just plug in the LED connector into the bulb socket, feed the harness back in, line it up, twist and lock it in place. All right. Same thing for this bigger one. All right. Gets pretty simple from here. We're just gonna plug in our factory connectors since it's just plug and play at this point. We've got the corner light, turn signal there. And then finally this one may come with a pre-installed additional adapter harness. That adapter harness is for certain vehicle applications. We popped ours off and we're gonna plug this guy in just like that. If yours doesn't work plugged into this guy directly, use the adaptor connector and it should work perfectly. So from here, what we're going to do now that we have everything plugged in, is just pop our headlight back into place. All right. Let's put those factory bolts back through the 10-millimeters. If you're using an impact gun, just make sure you're being careful as it gets tighter, you don't want to crack the plastic. All right. And one on the side. All right, repeat on the other side and you're good to go.That's gonna wrap up my review and install for the NOVA-Series LED Projector Headlights In Jet Black available for the '09 to '14 F-150. Now, if you're looking to spend a little bit of extra money for a super unique headlight, one of the most unique ones for this generation F-150 you can get these guys right here at americantrucks.com.
